Nope only FTV, I was looking at the Silvercrest site and the model that looks most similair (SL 35) does not have a HDMI connection

I wonder how long it'll be until Silvercrest start knockout out HD boxes?

60 euro is actually not great to be honest, no epg or HD channels and HDMI is only the connection. Better value in freesat boxes out there, with even a HD box for not much more

For anyone heading up north, B&Q are selling a HD satellite receiver with dish and all the fittings for £69.

I've posted it up in the Northern Ireland Bargain Alerts section here on the boards:

I can't speak specifically for this particular satellite receiver but I do own a similar one. These boxes are at their best when the dish is pointed at one of the less commonly used satellites as they can usually store the settings for multiple satellites and their channels. The on-screen programming guide is usually poor because Sky won't allow any more than 'Now and Next' to be displayed. The only box that will also give you the Irish terrestial channels is a Sky box with a Sky Irish subscription. Personally, I would look for a secondhand Sky box on Ebay, providing you can receive RTE etc via a conventional ariel.

FYI - They're also in the Dublin branch for €89, still a saving up north but probably not worth the commute for this alone

I'd completely forgotton about the Ross box, I flagged it up in B&Q in a previous thread :o

Please remember what your mammy told you, 'you get what you pay for'. Yes, these boxes can receive thousands of channels across multiple satellites but only if you are prepared to constantly move your dish. Once set to a particular satellite you are talking about hundreds of channels rather than thousands and the user friendliness of the menu system is way short of the Sky standards.

To be fair I think most of us know that. :)

There's a similar stb in Aldi today. Comes with a 43cm dish, which is useless for ireland:eek:

Not currently, those are currently transmitted via satellite by Sky via Astra.
Sky encrypt them for their platform.

    Quick Question

GF has moved into a house with what looks like a Sky dish mounted and cables run inside. Can this be used to get free view channels if connected?

Yes,i moved into a house last year and it had a Sky dish up and the cables were there,so i hooked up a Skybox and got the freeview channels no problems.

Took the dish with me too when i moved :D.

Don't know why aldi/lidl persist with coming out with these time after time. I know after the last time there were tons of them left in galway where they weren't sold. Bought one of these when they first came out and they were €10 less at €50. Have it in one of the bedrooms and it does fine but no HD channels - just HDMI connection. A bit pointless without the HD channels. Don't waste ye're money.
