    Hi,

I'm in Portugal at the moment (this might be relevant, read on) and when charging the Iphone 3GS with a battery extender. The phone suddenly got hot (it was already about 30 degrees outside) and the display went dark. Tried to charge after hard and soft resets and the battery got to 45% after about 7 hours. This morning - nothing!. The phone won't turn on. DO you think this is just a battery issue (i.e. replacement will fix it) or deeper than that?

    Thanks. Dermot

Has the phone come in contact with water at any stage? It's very easy to jump into water on holidays without checking your pockets.

check the water sensor in the headphone jack, if it is slightly pinkish in colour it could mean that it has been damaged by water:

I know this is a longshot, but it may be the problem.
