in harvey normans (limerick). i was surprised by the price, but didn't ask any questions or check out specs as i've never used a mac. but now i'm thinking maybe it'd be worth switching from pc to mac? Any comments?

why would it be reduced by so much - (may have been a display model now that i think of it, but that wasn't mentioned on the sign)

Hmmmm... I would ask them a lot of questions first, as it's VERY unusual to get Mac stuff with any kind of discount normally. Check what kind of warranty it comes with too. If they say 'none, as it's a display model' then run. I had the Macbook Pro a couple of years back, loved it, but it went a bit squiffy after about two years (reckon it was the logic board, too expensive to replace:mad:). Apart from that I loved it! Once you go Mac you'll never look back.

All a matter of opinion - not a fan of Macs, using a Macbook Pro now 90% of the time for the past 5~ months. Still rather Windies or a Linux alternative on non-apple hardware.
Apple Mac* = over priced hardware which leans towards design rather than functionality

    /rant :)

if you really want to change os and all software, and switch to overpriced (not to mention insane repair costs after [usually just 1 year] warranty) computer then why not? ;)

otherwise stick to asus UL series http://blog.laptopmag.com/laptop-fail-happens-to-20-30-of-notebooks-over-3-years-hps-more-than-anyone-else

It is probably a last gen model so they are selling it off cheap.

That is a suspiciously good price. Are you sure it's not just an empty box?

    "Macbox pro only €899" ;)

I was in HN in mullingar last wed looking for the entry level macbook pro. They only had one left which was the display model and that the max they could discount was 5% (€60)for it being a display model. Needless to say i left empty handed and headed for liffey valley
