No signal being received, unplug for 1 minute

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the above issue with my sky+ box. Been getting this message for the past couple of weeks, even when there's no wind or rain or anything. We have two boxes but they don't 'go off' together so I'm thinking it probably isn't a problem with the dish?

I've contacted sky about various problems with this box since it was installed about 3 years ago and they had to replace the box/adjust the dish/change wires etc each time they've been called out. Despite us having continual problems with the box since it was installed they still insist on chargeing us for call outs and will charge to replace the box. (Something I'm not entirely sure they should be doing since I've complained a lot and the problem was never rectified but anyway! :pac: ) So I'm trying to see if there are any solutions to this without sky having to get involved again.

I've plugged it out and sometimes it helps, other times it doesn't and it's just a matter of waiting for it to sort itself out. Very annoying as it's happening more and more often lately.

Excuse the ranting :D Any help greatly appreciated :)

You say that two boxes don't 'go off together' but does that mean that you have a problem with 1) only one box or 2) both boxes but at different times.

If 2), then the most likely problem is the dish has fallen out of alignment.

If 1), then most likely the problem is a problem with the LNBF output being faulty, damaged cables or a faulty receiver. If you swap over the receivers, you can see if the problem switches from one box to the other.

The fact that you've had problems since the start is disgraceful IMHO, given the amount of money you're forking out per month over 3 years. Ring them up, tell them your story and how you've paid for X previous call outs and say that your cancelling your subscription immediately if they don't sort out your problem. And I'd also push for a reduction in your subscription rates as recompense for their sh!tty customer support which they are continually bombarding us on TV with.

They both have problems, one more so than the other. The one with the most problems in the Sky+ box, the other is just a normal Sky box. The Sky+ box is the one we've had previous problems with. If it was up to me, I'd have caused a lot of fuss on the phone but it's my Mom who deals with them and she won't let me near the phone..wonder why?! :pac: So do you think we should have a fiddle around with the dish, hope for the best?

Probably alignment so. However, you're being messed around by Sky and their incompetent agents/installers. Ring them and get them to sort it out for free or else threaten to cancel the subscription.
