At least old mercs don't have to be turned into something better than when they left the factory to use today, unlike the brits

    Hi..
Maybe I'm just the suspicious type, but are the numbers on the odometer not a bit out of sync..

The 5 looks fine, the 6 is low and worse the next 0 is riding high...

It is anything but brand new! and its not unused either, its 29 years old and has done "65" miles:rolleyes:. Plus the 6 and the 5 don't line up with the zeros. Bogey, bogey, bogey.

Its a Datsun, nothing will line up.

The price quoted, £11000, maybe there's a bit of misalignment there too.

Don't book the flight just yet.

This car - even if its 29 years old is still 'new' for officialdom purposes and so would have to pass modern day emissions and crash protection requirements to obtain type approval. Not a hope this car will do this so it effectivly can never be driven on public roads and will be forever destined to be just a museum piece.

... and since its a Datsun what museum would want it - which explains why its still gathering dust in the Sahara. :)

Im sure if it came to this country a number plate would find its way onto the car....;)

are not those regulations not for year of manufacture ,plenty of mk 1 vw golfs coming over from south africa and getting registered here , i think you might be mistaken

Year of first Registration as far as I know. Wasn't there a full barn load of Fiats and other brand new unregistered juicy Italian classics discovered a few years back and this was the big problem with them.

They could not be legally registered because as first registered 'new' cars they did not comply with modern type approval regulations.

the vw golfs were being registered the annual road tax on them was over a grand , there was a mercedes benz 190 1981 on sale for 100k never registered but because it was year of manufacture it could be registered but very expensive . there was a thread here about the 190 recently

It's year of first registration, but I'm sure there's some slack somewhere to enable registration of unused vehicles of proven age. Wasn't there a previously unregistered Mercedes truck from the 70s recently registered on a ZV?

the box month and year of manufacture need only be completed if the vehicle was not previously registered
