Serviced my mate's 2007 3.0 Ducato Van the other night , I've changed the the handbrake shoes a few thousand kms ago , , the rear cables , and adjusted the front cable and the shoes themselves , and the handbrake is still awful ! The shoes were well bedded in and still you could pull away at tickover with the handbrake pulled .

    Any ideas?

does the handbrake lever reach max travel or does it pull up a few clicks and still not hold?

nope , even when "overtightened" it still doesn't hold.

did you check the new cables against the old cables ? if everything is done as said it has to be a wrong part or parts , were the parts from a main dealer or motor factor ?

Usually the same problem when ovetighthening does not work

    Slacken cable right off

Make sure that the little levers on the caliper that are pulled by the cable have returned to their rightful homes .ie that they are free to move.

Then push on pedal mutliple times to adjust the self adjust mech.

Then take a small bit of slack out of the cable.

Most of these probs are to do with not realising that you adjust the brakes, then take up the slack in the cable. ONLY.

    Hope this helps.
