First time lady driver here. Looking to buy a first car for about EUR: 1k - 1.5k... small engine (1.2 max) wondering what should be looking for for reliable car, ie Nissan, Ford Fiesta, Opel corsa, Volkswagen and Renault have all been suggested as reliable cars.. any further suggestions/advice for good cars that wont cause hassle, or ones to avoid? Also, what should I be looking at when viewing a car? Any links to a good guide on what to look for would be appreciated. Many thanks!!

Vw polo is a good little car. Very reliable and a strong car.

    Fiesta imo.

The mark 3 fiestas (96-00/01) go on forever. Especially the 1.3 engined ones, however the 1.2 ones with the newer (non pushrod) engine are reliable too, although I cant base that on personal experience.

On any car that you are buying for 1k or so you should be looking for service history, as in a lot of cases things like timing belts etc will need changing. A recent NCT pass is always a good thing!

Steer clear of renaults and you cant go too far wrong imo.

Polo are a great car, so much so they really do hold there value so might be priced out, Maybe a clio or a 206

If you are buying a car for 1000 euros, it doesn't really matter what make it is.
Car would be good few years old, and how reliable it will be, it depends on how previous owner/owners cared about it.
