Self Service Checkout - Age Restriction

Was over in my local Tesco this morning getting a few items, so I went up to the self service checkout (there are 4 in total). 4 people where using them, 3 of them at least over 65 and there was one person in front of me also pensionable age who was going to get the next free checkout.

Between all the pensioners they took ages on the checkout that I would have been better going to a normal checkout where there is a member of staff on and queuing.

Between not being able to find the barcode on items, not being able to find the vegetable on the machine, not able to find their wallet, not able to pack their bag, forgetting their change - my head was melted.

People between the ages of 16 and 60 should only be able to use the self service checkout, anybody younger or older than these ages should be banned from them and redirected to a checkout where the member of staff is.

    Rant over

Christ. My head is melted even trying to imagine pensioners using the self-service checkout.

Almost as bad as the women who wait until they see the bill to even start looking for their purse!

what a really stupid idea you've got there.

why not kill the over 60's while we're at it?

I saw a priest in his 80's using the one in Superquinn a while back and he was much faster than anyone else.

    Now that's an excellent idea!!!

I hate 50% of people who use self service checkouts, they are clearly marked with 10 items or less, but I have seen people bring a whole weeks shopping to them and not realise what they are doing is dickish!

They are supposed to be quick, but some people are too stupid to use them!

What about women? They're excellent at shopping yet crap with technology.

What do you expect if you're stupid enough to go food shopping on a Saturday morning?

OP, most Tescos are open 24 hours to accommodate people like yourself.

Excellent at shopping and then looking on with shock when they asked for payment.
And spend aaaaages rooting around for change, hurry up

If you are just buying one or two things you could have the loose change ready, speedy transaction and you use your small coins, win win!

Ah sure the longer the pensioners spend in the supermarkets the less time they are on our roads.

Maybe it was the first time they've used it.
    Old does not mean stupid.

I just think people should have the cop on to know whether they'll be able to use them. They're really simple, yet I always manage to get stuck behind some idiot who stands looking at the screen for about ten minutes

I seen a 18-20 year old in Dublin Connolly Train station last month who, after spending 5 minutes trying to buy a ticket at the ticket machine, finally turned to me to ask for help. So I press the 3 buttons for him and he starts routing around for the fare. He was 80c short, so I just gave him the fare so that I could get my ticket.

18-20 year olds should be banned from using train ticket machines!

Self service checkouts should be banned. For every computerised self service checkout there is, thats someone out of a job.

There was people like you during the industrial revolution, they were ignored then and they will be ignored now.

Holding back progress for a few minimum wage jobs doesn't help society, I'd rather cheaper food.
