    im 17 living at home with my mum,am i entitled to claim a rent allowance as i am working and handing up a wage

    Rent allowance isn't a taxation issue, you may be better posting in the state benefits thread.

    Unless its the rent relief tax credit you are referring to. You can claim this, but your mum would also be liabile to tax on the amount your handing up also.

    I assume you were referring to the rental tax credit. No 100% on this but think the answer is no.

    Assuming you mean the rent tax credit then ....yes.

    BUT...it has to be actually rent and not just a contribution for the upkeep of the house. Also rent a room allowance will not apply when it is parent and child so the rent would have to be declared income by the parents.

    I would therefore advise you dont go there.
