    Hi

On a HTC desire with vodafone does anyone know how I can make voip calls over 3g using a service like skype. I know I would be able to do this over wi-fi but I would prefer 3g.

Laos what are the related costs and advantages/disadvantages of the different options.

    Thanks

There are loads of VOIP possibilities on both 3G and Wifi. Skype isnt one of them.

    Advantages
    - 0.5c a minute calls to almost anywhere

    Cons
    - Uses up your data, so once your 1Gb is up dont make any more calls or it will cost you a fortune. As per below 1Gb gets you alot of calls.

Hello and welcome to Blueface forum!

We made a test some weeks ago from an iPhone:

    1 minute of 3G call :
It used up half a Mega up and half a Mega down.
We were using the default g711 codec (there are lighter ones).

For 1 hour that would be : 30Mb up and 30Mb down.

    2GB is MASSIVE.

Note that the voice quality with 3G can vary a lot depending on your coverage!

    Thanks

Skype don't have an Android App, thats why there's no Skype, if Skype made an App, you could use it on 3G.

Your data on an Android phone is your data, to use as you see fit, VOIP, downloads, web, tethering etc. with no network interference or restrictions beyond FUP.

Truphone and Fring seem to be the most popular VOIP clients.
