well seeingly that i own a HTC HD2 and there has been a discussion earlier in the start of the HD2 linux kernel development i thought i would make an update since alot of ppl dont like the WinMo alot :)

So heres the link to the the original thread HERE (have in mind that this thread was closed a few times due to stupid posts so read first page before posting anything...i wouldnt bother going to the end cause its full of useless posts)

so the build is getting there features like Calls (still not fully working and ur phone wil freeze after a call :( ) messages working so is wifi bt 3g and HW3D...theres still alot of work left on it as to solving the Sleep of Death issues where device goes to sleep and you cant wake it up...but their still early beta stages so their only for some messing around not for everyday use.

Heres a LINK to android development progress

And the page to download beta roms for android is HERE

    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I have tested all roms since the first beta that was released and they all froze or had other problems...personally i found that the desire build is the more slow but stable build as it doesnt have so many key running processes crashing as to standard Froyo build.

Still Development Going on at rather fast and it might not be long till we have a stable every day usable android build...

    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

To use the rom or test it just put the unzipped files that you downloaded from gamesquare in the root of your sd card run CLRCAD.exe before running the haret/zharet to enable sound.

    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Heres a Link to a program for dual-booting. This is only a simple program to interupt start up progress before sense to choose between Android or Win Mo. Intrusctions are inside the thread too on xda forum.

(Gen Y Dual-Boot does work for haret but it does not load CLRCAD.exe before haret hence why Jmz one is better because it does load CLRCAD.exe before haret :)

Android Easy Launch A Great Application To launch Android from WinMo save you the hastle of looking for CLRCAD.exe and Haret it loads CLRACAD.exe auto and then loads haret

    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Personally i found android a bit boring but maybe because i havent messed around with it as much as i have with the winmo...every one keeps saying that win mo is ****...i dont think so :) theres alot of things out there for it if you have a decent look around...i as a minority love to fiddle around with the phone and see what it can do :P

so enjoy the best of both worlds :)

I just downloaded the files to set up the dual-boot. Will do that tomorrow.
I've had the HD2 for 3 months. For the past 2 weeks I've also had a review Desire and in May I had an X10...the HD2 is much much more reliable. It can be personlised ad absurdum and back; battery life beats Desire's by at least half a day, it runs Java flawlessly, it really syncs pop accounts (even when your not looking ;) )...

Apps? c'mon, how many 'cute sexy asian' apps do you need?

Built: The HD2 I've. been using as a 'workhorse' phone for 3 months - yet it looks and works like new. The Desire I wrapped in silk and daily lotion of care, yet the screen has tiny scratches all over.

Also: you're right about Sense! With Sense on the Desire it cold starts with appr 200mb free RAM, within hours of not doing ANYTHING that goes down to 150-ish... Dito battery: an idle day in airplane mode the Desire uses 40% of battery! What's it doing? Searching cute asians?

yeah i agree...when i first bought the hd2 i thought it was great but after a few weeks i kinda wished there was more apps on it...then found xda and was quite surprised how many apps devs are out there...for a normal person they dont care they just want one place to find apps...i like to fiddle around with the phone and the OS...and thats what i like about it...

lmao one person after testing android hd2 decided to sell hd2 and get himself an android phone though

though have to said im terrified to go on the android market cause of spammy crap apps of hot girls wallpapers apps...google really needs to ban them...

having said that its nice to boot a different OS on the phone cause u get sick of sense spb or normal WinMo UI's...cant wait to start messing around with fully working android :)

The only thing that annoys me with the winmo, my HD2 sometimes freezes when I try and answer calls and I find that really annoying :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

lol it never freezes to me :P or freeze in general is a really rare sight on HD2 for me.

it freezes on me, I push the bar over to answer and nothing happens so I have to try again, I like the phone for browsing and general internet use but I may sell it.

The bar seems to freeze or something. I have never tried Android but next phone I get, may be android.

    how about a new rom?

Prestige X im using this now and it never has freezed or any problems...you should try it :P

So as i said this development moves quite fast and apparently Dev Cottula has added a bat monitor and solved the sleep of death problem

    Link

    Your meant to download Cotulla_zImage_SNDIN_BAT_DATA.rar

and extract it to your sd card root and it should work :)

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

unfortunately it doesnt work for me so im downloading a full build now from one of the posters so ill see how that goes

EDIT: Got it working but seems as loads of users including me are having issues with backlight as its 100% brightness = to 0 on WinMo so see when will that get fixed up

but i can confirm Sleep of death and battery monitor are fixed and working :) so once this is fixed well have a pretty stable hd2 android build

Are you using the HTC Desire rom ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

right now im using DanFroyo Build

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

New zImage made by cottula to solve backlight issue but terminated the data package availability...

Currently using V3 Desire Rom with Cottula's updated zImage.

    _________________________________________________________________

right tried the new zImage and it seems ok...running on desire rom (seems more stable than froyo)

its very stable now for me...didnt try data cause got no 3G around where i live only wifi at home. but SOD is solved though the backlight is always on...anyway it solves the problem for now and u can mess around with it without crashing...its charging and battery monitor is working too...

heres a LINK and download the latest zImage and copy replace the one in ur root sd folder

Have to say very impressed on the speed of these developers , if they keep this up should only be another few weeks and we will all be flashing our HD2's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

not sure i wanna flash it :) probably will just to see possibilities with android. but i looked around desire and evo forums and i dont like the way you gotta push things through adb rather than just flashing or cab...that made me realise how much simpler the WinMo is :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

Desire Eclair Build v4 is out in gamesquare for testing...more info in gamesquare.co.uk website. Seems most stable and working quite good...though last night i downloaded the build 3 and since it seemed so stable i left it on for the night but i woke up with wm weirdly so dont know what happened there

EDIT: Use Latest Cottula's zImage with the new desire build for stability...

Devs also recommended to use miri rom for things to work fine ;P

why not its easy...download...put them on ur phone sd card and ur done...and about the android rom its not worth it i think...all thats done is an empty win mo rom boots up and then quickly loads haret auto... dont see any point in that since it takes too long to boot...

I have misplaced the sd card so have to wait to buy another one. I like Windows mobile but the random slowdowns are annoying. maybe its the really good screen lock I have but the screen goes off, buttons still light up and it takes a minute or two for screen to come back on

I have never used Android so I am a bit weary of it..:o

I think when I get a SD card, I will backup my apps and then I may try and reinstall another version of Artemis

by the way do you still have that internet speed ^

lads i hate to drag up an old thread, but my friend just got the HD2 and i said id put Android on it, but my god i cant get my head around trying to install it.

im trying to follow this thread but i cant make heads or tails of whats going on.
i dropped a build onto the SD card and booted into linux but its paused at
    Jumping to Kernel (custom)
    and nothing happens.

can anyone show me a quick guide on how to replace WinMo? Preferably for a complete newb with a stock unlocked phone.

i presume all the kinks/problems have been fixed by now and its a stable option?
