Burning rubber smell

Driving '08 Hyundai i30 1.6 diesel since march. 23.5k miles when purchased - 28k miles now. I bought car from a northern dealer but i know the car was initally registered on UK mainland and suspect it may have been a lease/rental car. Very happy with car overall but noticed a faint burning rubber smell when i make a short journey (1-3 miles) eg drive from home to supermarket - car barely warms up - i notice faint smell. After a longer journey i dont notice any smell. I move out of a drive on a slope and when i release the hand brake i feel as if the brakes are not " balanced" - one side is gripping more than the other! For that reason i have assumed the the smell may be brake related and because the brake performance seems ok i can get it looked at in the next service.
In the last week i have started teaching my daughter to drive in an spacious carpark and have noticed the smell big time. The clutch is taking a battering with my learner driver and now i fear the smell may be a clutch problem. As yet i have not noticed any slipping clutch but opinions would be welcomed.

Inspect your engine maybe there is something on exhaust. Burning clutch smells slightly different but some people wouldn't know the difference.

Hyundai clutches are known to be made of cheese or something tbh, but don't worry it will be covered under warranty.
