    can u buy an iphone in america (contact free\) and bring it back here and use it as normal....(after unlocking if necessary.)

    where can u get them unlocked also.
    please help.

    You need to buy a used one on somewhere like eBay or craigslist and then jailbreak and carrier unlock. You cannot buy one from apple or AT&T without a 2year contract.

    You can buy one as a gift for the full price but it's still locked to AT&T. Read the small print on the iPhone page.

    Technical it's without contract, current reality is it won't work as it's not yet jailbroken. (there is one on the way though)

    You are better off getting a SIM unlocked model in the UK or here in Ireland when they are released later :)

    can u explain "jailbreak" to me.....i dont fully understand the thread above...
    after u jailbreak it....will the phone work perfectly with whatever sim then??
