    Hi all

I applying for a job in a telecommunications company in Ireland but as part of my application they want to run a credit check on me, to me this sounds very unusual. I am wondering have other people come across this in an application??

I have this in another thread apologies for that, mods feel free to delete the other post in the work problems thread

Does seem a bit odd, what type of job is it, is it one with access to financial data/cash? They may not want to take on anyone in serious debt in case they try to rob the company.

its just for a managers job, the only thing there would be handling cash alright and obviously company and consumer data protection i just thought it was strange like.

In my experience, the people most likely to "mishandle" cash in the workplace are people who have built up debts through gambling or alcohol. If you're expected to handle cash, they might want to check that you've no problems which would leave you open to temptation.
it's a pain cos nobody likes their private matters being looked into but they probably feel they're behaving responsibly.
