    Back a new series tonight..

.. half-way through the first episode back!

No, it's not as enjoyable as it once was, but it's still good for a few childish giggles!

Didn't even bother to be honest. The previous series suggested the format was all played out.

They really take the píss out of Ulrika-ka-ka

It's good for a few giggles. It is what it is.

    BBC2 at 9.30pm on Friday.

    It said 1 / 6 (so I'm guessing another 5 episodes).

I was surprised for two reasons :

    1. I didn't even know there was a new series coming on.

    2. It was actually pretty funny.

Now the thing is the first episode of a new SS series usually is pretty funny but it seems like they use up all their good ideas in the first show and mostly recycle them for the remaining episodes with a few bright spots along the way. They need to get people on who aren't really aware of the show or what it's about. Like Larry Hagman......

Bump.. the second episode is on tonight at 9.30 on BBC2.

Unsure why considering the first episode was on Friday last week (unless that was a repeat)!

Tueday first showing, ditto Mitchell and Webb which I will be watching.

Already repeated the red button joke and had a little song about Ulrika. Not great. But wait the dance with Vic's pants falling down.....Hilarious!!

Additional : Why didn't they ever try to get Charlie Chuck (also known as Uncle Peter in the Smell of Reeves and Mortimer) in the place of Renton Skinner (Angelos). I mean Angelos is already aping a good deal of Chuck's mannerisms! Maybe they're just trying to give an up and comer a break......

taught Vic's irish accent was spot on whilst doing Bono

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Bob: "What is Swedish, cheap and entered by thousands of people every year?"
    Chris: "Ulrika?"
    Bob: "No, it's Ikea."

    :D

Vic's strong man routine was very funny, think Bob needs to up his game though. Angelos Epithemiou is way better doing the scores than on the panel. Its jaded but still capable of being very, very funny unlike the Mitchell and Webb look which, besides the first episode, has been dire

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, I've really warmed to Angelos Epithemiou since he started doing the scores!

I thought it was quite funny last night. Some funny questions, some funny skits and pretty good overall.

I lold when he gave Ulrika his bag of dirty washing

Good laugh but not as good as their 1990s period where they had some classic sketches in the clips round.

Very funny last night. I think the catalyst has been Angelos even though I'm not that keen on the overall character, the show has been given an injection of life much like when Johnny Vegas was on the show as a permanent panellist.

Thought it's been a very good season so far! Angelos is far better than George Doors tbh never really found him funny...

    I still would though!

It's surprisingly not too bad, I thought the last series was tired and struggled badly but I must admit Angelos is growing on me

I watched the last 2 episodes and found them to be fantastic. New score guy annoys me when a regular guest on any kind of show but I don't mind him on this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Next week is the last in the series but it's got some good guests..
Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer present the comedy quiz show, with Angelos challenging one contestant to an energetic dance-off. Jack Dee is joined by pop singer Paloma Faith and Pineapple Dance Studios star Louie Spence, while Ulrika Jonsson teams up with Top Gear host James May and Inbetweeners actor James Buckley. Last in the series

Did anyone watch it last night?

    Thought it was ok.

Ulrika looks so skinny though that it's actually worrying, very unhealthy looking and not nice to look at.

If I was her I'd get myself to the doctor sharpish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,701 ✭✭✭Sids Not

    Last episode...shame ...

Thought the end with May and the "tramp" was very funny, but James Buckley looked lost...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

It was the weakest of the season by far.. but Angelo's dance to 'Pokerface' gave me a giggle!

Don't think James Buckley had seen the show before judging by his reactions!

He said maybe 8 words for the entire episode.

No just a seeming lack of food IMO.

I only watched the last episode last night (Sky+ ftw, thanks George for the advice) and found it quite amusing.

I missed the first few episodes, but from the episodes I saw, I thought it was quite good. Seemed a short series though?

Not that I (or anyone else) can throw stones but yeah Ulrika....Yich!

I think that if Mark Lamarr had not tired of his role in the series he would still be there but he and Johnny Vegas, Matt Lucas and even Will Self seemed to have enough going on that they could go and do other things whereas Ulrika has loyally stayed and been the smiling brunt of Bob's comedy songs since day one of the show. It's just a pity that she has been the least funny one

Yeah, that dance was good too....:D

Almost forgot the funniest line i've heard all year...Angelos to May, "Top Gear..its a bit like Last of the summer wine now..is'nt it..?..brilliant..:D

    Bump! :D

Anyone watching the current run? Much better than that last series to my mind. Angelos Epithemiou is becoming a star in his own right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Bah.. didn't even realise it was back! :(

Monday 10 pm BBC2 I think there are two left.

Whoops got that wrong, tonights was the last. Ah well. youtube it is then :)

I think the series is pretty much as good as it ever was. I wish they wouldn't repeat jokes as much but that's always been a thing on Shooting Stars.

Angelos has really found form and is a fine replacement for George Dawes.

    Archie Andrews = Hilarious
    Eggy John/John Longcock = Hilarious
The weird puppet that crawls along the floor = Hilarious
Over the top laughing at jokes by Vic, Bob and Angelos with the false teeth = Hilarious.

The fourth episode of the run was the best, in my opinion. Had a very funny character guest and bits like Vic eating Bob's toupee.

I do think that R&M have one more great sketch show or even a Big Night Out style variety show left in them because it's evident from the success of the series that their style hasn't waned. It's actually gotten weirder and I wonder what their output would be like if they had no guests to deal with and just had total free reign?

Was that the last show of the series? Shame, I only recently realised Vic & Bob were doing new episodes of Shooting Stars. Part of me was worried that this inane, bizarre humour would be lost on me now I'm no longer a student ;) But tonight's episode had me laughing out loud. It's funny but you just don't get that kind of surrealist humour anymore, it's so brilliantly daft.

Angelos is a great replacement; as is Jack Dee. I would never have thought he'd be the type of comedian to go with Vic & Bob's madness, but he's a good foil. Most of the fun is spotting his stifled laughter as he tries to maintain his sour demeanour :)

Shooting Stars has been cancelled or if you prefer not renewed by BBC2 :(
