Panacur is fine and does the job.Either mix it into the drinking water until it looks milky or if your birds have moved onto wheat withdraw all the available food, get a hold of a cement mixer.
Yes I am serious ! Clean it out with a few shovels of course sand, small stones and some water.Let it dry a while then fill it up with wheat.
Mix your panacur with some cooking oil and add to the wheat. Let it spin around for a while until the mix is evenly spread and give it to the birds.
A two pronged attack with both dosed water and wheat is the most successful.
Alternatively keep a few sacks of treated pellets to hand and treat as soon as you see signs of gapes,it spreads very rapidly and the birds loose condition very quickly.Treat for one week.
Dont bother treat them to clean them out by treating them.GAPES DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY. You cannot immunise your birds against it.
If you keep an eye on the birds in September when they are moving out from the pens exploring the big bad world you will more than likely see gapes in the birds in the fields.

Time spent in observation is never time wasted.

what about treating the wheat that you put in the hoppers in the fields, would this be of any benefit

Sure, but more than likely they are still returning to roost around the pen.
Pheasants always like a bite to eat before going to roost.Thats why I suggest you replace the feed in the pen with treated wheat.
But there is absolutely no harm in treating the wheat in your feeders around the place as well.

my mixer fills a barrow in one go so how much panacur do i put into the mix

Mix it with the cooking oil so that is good and milky. You cannot overdose as far as I am aware. I still have half a bottle of panacur from treating 2 mixer loads and my water last year.
