So I get my renewal quote in the post and so began the ringing different places for a quote. Rang Quinn (until last year I was insured with them) they took my details and I’m told sorry you’re in a high risk area we can’t quote you, you have to fill in a form, send that in with a scan of the front and back of my licence just to get a quote.

Ok I said, ill ring my local branch, and explain the back-story. Got the Cavan number of a letter, asked for the Blanch number and I’m told the numbers are the same. Told the girl 4 years with them, form and pictures etc, it’s nothing personal and if you want to go the branch they have the form and will scan your licence.

I’m lost here, is this the same Quinn that had to lay of loads of staff? I rang other places without high risk area talk and got a quote as normal. I mean it can’t be that high risk if they have an office here that employees people from the area.

Got the same crap myself in April, high risk area and had to send out a form to be filled in, before they quoted. Told the guy at the end of the phone that Sean Qunn needed the postal charge more than I did and not to bother sending the form. Got the forms in the post 2 days later......Straight to the recycling bin... (Sean Quinn was in the Sh1t at the time)

Went to Eagle Star (Zurich) and they bet AXA, FBD, AA, Hibernian, and all the other 123's etc,; hands down.

Funny thing I got a call off Quinn a couple of days later asking if I still wanted to avail of a quote from them, (financial Regulator really) Asked why no forms etc; was told reviewing the area I live in,
Joke if I ever heard it.
    I declined their offer, surprisingly.
I will never call Quinn direct again for a quote on my motor insurance, and as long as Zuich are giving me a good price I will stick with them, (And the missus is with Zurich too, and that give's a bit of clout)

Never heard this , can they decline motor insurance due to your address ? seems unfair.

I'm guessing they can if there are so many incidents occuring in that area. That's what insurance is about. The higher the risk, the higher the premium. I've never been asked for proof of where i live though.

They done it with me, I was disapointed at the time, but reasoned with the guy on the end of the phone, he had no interest. All he could say was he had to sent out the forms as it was a high risk area, hence I basically told him to stick the form's where the sun don't shine.
    (Take a hint buddy)
He still sent the forms. And like I said the went straight to the bin.

Although they did not decline motor insurance, they required further steps to be taken (filling out forms, before they would provide a quote) Where as any other motor insurance provider will provide a quote online or by phone regardless of address.
They may not be the best quotes you recieve, but they quote at least.

The reason I ended speaking with Quinn was, when I enterted my details on their web-site I kept getting bombed out and told to contact a 1890 number, that is what I did. That is where the story starts.

    Agreed Jaffa,

Neither me, but I was insuring a 2006 VW Passat, all the bells a whistles. VW Immobiliser, VW alarm, off street parking, locked iron gates, and still no push on their, sending out form stuff.

where are these 'high risk' areas out of interest?

Im never going with Quinn again myself, I have friends and people I know who work for them, but this attitude have turned me of ever ringing them again.

Ive gone with AA, I was with Glennon brokers who had me with Allianz, insurance went from 480ish to 613. 123.IE quoted me 551 and then AA said well match this and a special offer today of 20 extra of, plus AA was direct debit or credit card over the phone, Glennon wanted a bankers draft.

I go where its cheap and within fairly recognised names, its only a necessary evil you HAVE to pay and hope to never use.

Jeffk, you have a flawed ideal when it comes to car insurance.
You should go where you get the best cover for the best price, and not just insure yourself with the cheapest. Many make that mistake and then in the event of a claim find out what a few extra €50 or €100 could have REALLY saved them.;)

Sorry I didn't mean it to be cheapest is the best, as in some fella in an office in the middle of nowhere. I get the cheapest of the named places and make sure they match up to the renewal I have.

Thank god, only once in six years I had to call out the roadside assistant, when an unfinished remote keyfob install locked itself and the keys in the car.
