Holowcore and full fill cavity

I asked my builder to install an airtight membrane with the hollowcore as was advised on this site previously - I think its been called a "Tony Tray". However, he is arguing that when you have a full fill cavity this is not required as the bead will be blown into the hollowcore and will create an airtight seal. He did say that he installed membranes with hollowcore in the past when he was using cavity insulation boards.

Any views on this issue, would it still be better to use a membrane even with a full fill cavity?

    Thanks

The bead will not create an airtight seal. Use the membrane.

Incidently, you don't use the actual airtight membranes because they damage really easily. You use the breathable felts instead which can take a little more rough treatment.

I agree with sas. Use a breathable felt. The bead won't provide an airtight seal in the hollowcore.
