Hi folks, I know this has been debated over a few times but I was just wondering what you guys thought of this car insurance quote I got, is it too expensive, could I get a cheaper one?

    Male
    22 y.o.
Prov. License, no prior driving experience in Ireland
    BMW 316i e36, 1596cc, 1997, Purch Pr. 1950e
Residence & car use in Dublin, car parked on public road
Cover is fully comprehensive with audio equipment, third party, injury, windscreen etc etc.
Excess of 443e on the policy

    €1,275 upfront, or
    €388 upfront and 106x9 installments = €1,342

This is the quote I received from Britton Insurances. I personally think its competitive but was wondering what the general public thought and if anyone could guide me in getting even cheaper insurance. Something which is quite shocking is that I got the same quote & cover with the same company but for a ford fiesta 1.4, worth a 1000e? I was expecting atleast a couple of hundred to go up when applying for a quote on a BMW 1.6l. But they came saying the exact quote given to me for the fiesta still stands.

Engine size doesn't really appear to have an effect on the price of the quote nor does the value of the car within reason, in my experience anyway unless it is a car which is loaded for another reason eg a honda civic because of the sterotype placed upon it as a boy racer car.

Personally I think that is a very competitive quote, I myself am insured with Britton, I'm 21 with 3 years NCB and a full licence for 2 years with 2 points, and my insurance was 1400 euro in February on an 08 1.4 Golf TSI. Previously I have found Quinn to be the cheapest insurer but after much shopping around Quinn had become one of the more expensive and Britton was the cheapest by a stretch.

    Hope this helps.

    Price on insurance = good

    Price on car = bad

magicmarker, do you think 1950 is not the right price for a '97 316i? I think the same, this is the asking price, I haven't haggled yet, but I wouldn't be interested in paying anymore than 12 or 1,300 for the car.

    Thanks for your opinions.

How low do you think I could go down to in regards to the purchase price of this one -

Their quotes are good sure, but when you need to claim they are terrible to deal with.

I think under the circumstances you would be hard pressed to beat that quote.

Will Quinns even quote on those details?

To be fair €1275 for a 22yo on a provisional license, no experience, and driving a 1.6 316i is a quite incredible quote. I can tell you with almost certainty you wont beat that quote.

    I am paying 900ish something for a 1998 540i, 4.4L for a "mature" driver. Read over 30 with 5+ years no claim.
Which is not the best price around but I am paying for a few extras.
So yeah I this quote sound pretty damn good to me, especially knowing you are only 22.

I knew a guy back in 2004 he had to pay 4000 euro for a e36 316i, he was in his early 20ties..

That's a very competitive quote. I was paying around 1,300 for only tpft when i was 22 on a 97polo:(

Try putting the value as €3000, price may drop a bit.
