Hopefully its not just a recap of his autobiography

Since its meant to be factual and not fictional, there will be some similarity between the two!

Hopefully its not just a recap of his autobiography

though the book was good after the first few chapters.

every chapter of his book finished along the lines of 'and me and (insert famous other rugby players name in here) went to the bar, got locked and had a good ould sing-song, sure it was great craic'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭JonnyF

similar recurring pattern to EOS's book.

Every chapter follows the same line

    1. Eddie meets new person
2.Eddie and new person work together with success for a period of time
    3. Issues arise which are never fully addressed.
    4. Eddie and AN Other no longer speak

worst rugby book so far in Ronan's though. I did not care for it.

Ronan's, Eddie's and Jonny Wilkinson's are some of the worst drivel ever published and were a chore to read.

Most of my rugby playing days were the same, (except for the meeting famous rugby players part).........

Ok, I haven't been on boards for a while, so I'm not clued in on the newer rules regarding the following. I''ve searched, but found nothing conclusive.

Would it be possible for someone to grab this and upload it to youtube?
I've a few friends in Australia who will want to see this, and I don't have the required hardware and software.

I'll be reporting this post after submitting it, just to get clearance from the mods.
I know streaming links are allowed. Just not sure on the youtube thing though.

Please help if you can. It would mean a lot to the lads from Leixlip (and especially Confey) to see a local hero.

Can you definitely not access the RTE player in Aussie?

Well I learned nothing new after watching that.

    It was gently pleasant.

Not the finest moment in sports documentary television by any stretch.

Not as far as I know.

From reading posts in AH (yeah, I know), you can't watch it outside Ireland.

    Anyway, as for the show (copied and pasted from Facebook);
    That was brilliant.
A bit too short, but it really showed him in a good light. Rory and Iris came across really well too.

I nearly cried during the part about Damo.
I remember meeting him down by the slaughterhouse and he tried to bum a smoke and a can off me.
I lectured him about the dangers of both, and warned him that if I saw him drinking or smoking, I would tell his brothers.
Three days later he had died.

The part about the people of Toulouse loving Trev is no exaggeration either.
Some of his friends who have been over there have told me how he is regarded over there, and it was just how they showed it. They worship hm.

It's great to see such a nice person doing so well.

Some Ulster fans might just have a quiet smile at your description. Very good player all the same who never gave less than 100% and really cut it (no pun intended!) with Toulouse in the rough and tumble of the Top 14. Won I think at least 2 HC's with Toulouse which is more than most players on these islands.

Me too, plus many rugby fans, but not the time nor the place to get into that!

A blackguard, dirty, chip on the shoulder - should have played for Munster.
    We'd have loved him.
Great guy shame he was overlooked so long for Ireland.

Just watched the show there now, good to see things working out well for the man. Always wished he could have come back to Leinster at some point, but it's clear to see he was appreciated in Toulouse like he never was here. He was a bruiser and it's always good to have a man like him on the field, the other team know not to p**s him off too much or the rulebook will be thrown out the window.

I've enjoyed the odd Die Hard Brennan in Kiely's too, never been a fan of cocktails but you have to pay your respects in some way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,969 ✭✭✭buck65

    Why?
Because some bigoted sectarian Ulster fan called his mum a fenian whore. He was right to knock him out.Pity he didnt do more.

Goose I don't often agree with you as you are usually wrong;) but nail on the head here!

brennan didnt get more cap because he left the country.

he went on to win a load of medals with one of europe tops teams and at the time was winning hcups and top14 titles, man was a great player, no other irish player as had a better club career.

    Is that what he said?

I thought the guy who got hit took Liveline to court. The day after it happened Liveline ran a show where they said the fan used sectarian abuse. The fella who got a whack off brennan also got a whack of money off RTE, somehwere in the region of 50,000 if i remember correctly.

In relation to the brennan not getting more caps for Ireland, his competition for the irish jersey was pretty stiff, quinlan, easterby, o connell, o kelly, o callaghan.

I think these where the main guys he was competeing with in the number 6 and second row.

Remember gleeson, costello, foley, wallace where all knocking about in the back row at the same time. There was serious competition for the starting jersey.

Im not anti brennan or anything, im a big fan of his (i have his book and everything :D)

Sometimes the law is an ass. Whether it was said or not, that is what he thought he heard he said and the life ban was way over the top in the first place. Anyway, who chants 'your bar is below par, Trev'?

Don't forget Gary Longwell & Eric Miller were also ahead of him when he first got selected and Quinlan and Wallace were injured for a fair bit in their early careers. Brennan would have been a great one to be starting against France in the 6Ns regardless.

I think Cheika tried to bring him back to Leinster, but he was too settled in Toulouse then so decided to stay there.

Don't think he has a Top 14 winners medal - just two Heineken Cup medals. Most the Munster team (including Ian Dowling :D) would have had a better club career than him as they would have won 2 HCups + Magners & Celtic Cups etc).

Ye'd swear Quinlan got 100 caps the way ye're talking - another backrower criminally overlooked even recently.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,266 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatFromHue

I think Quinlan got most of his ireland caps between 2001 and 2003, which is when brennan was in the ireland mix up too.

So its relevant bringing him into this discussion.

I agree with you about Quinlan - 11 starts out of 27 caps. And then bringing him to the RWC and not giving him even bench time.

Both were overlooked in the period 2004-2007 by EOS for another exile (Simon Easterby) so the excuse that Brennan wasn't playing in Ireland is rubbish. No disrespect to Easterby or Scarlets, but it would be hard to compare them favourable to the careers of Brennan/Toulouse or Quinlan/Munster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,770 ✭✭✭danthefan

Simon Easterby earned and deserved every single one of his caps up to the 2007 RWC, after which EOS should have allowed him to retire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,076 ✭✭✭Digifriendly

Would never excuse verbal abuse from the sidelines but neither would I excuse fisticuffs from players either. As I said it doesn't diminish for me Brennan's achievements as a hard nosed and tough as teek forward who competed in one of the hardest leagues in the world.

I wouldn't care what he said, still a stupidresponse from Brennan. If he take take stick how would be keep his temperament on the pitch?

I'm Having no-one advocating violence on here. Grow up, cop on and get the debate on a more sensible level or I'm locking the thread. Also I'm sick to death of people who should know better thanking idiotic posts. Also be very, very careful when posting unsubstantiated gossip/hearsay on here. Anyone who continues down this route is getting a lengthy ban.

In his time there they got to two finals in 2003 (v Stade) and 2006 (v Biarritz) and lost both. The winners in the years he was there are:

    2002 Biarritz
    2003 Stade
    2004 Stade
    2005 Biarritz
    2006 Biarritz
    2007 Stade

Funnily enough :D Toulouse won it in 2008 when he had been retired!

Not claiming Easterby didn't deserve his caps - but we will never know will we if Ireland could have done better with either Brennan or Quinlan in the backrow. I seem to remember Quinlan scoring a fairly crucial try on one occasion in the RWC! And Brennan seems to have been a fairly important cog in the Toulouse machine.

Didn't see the show so can't comment but I randomly came across his pub Dé Danu when I was in Toulouse 2 weeks ago, really nice inside. Plenty of pictures of the big fella and signed rugby jerseys.

Easterby was a good player but even when he lost form he seemed allowed to keep his place and get his form back.
By all accounts Easterby did alot of the grunt work in the pack and didn't shine as much as others for that reason.
