Never stayed there, but been to loads of weddings and things over the years. The food was not the best for a while, but it's much improved of late. Very good now, in fact. *think* it's under new management in the yast year or so and maybe that's why things have changed. Tripadvisor seems to give it a good go, and I see the management respond to posts there. http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Hotel_Review-g212097-d214525-Reviews-Cahir_House_Hotel-Cahir_County_Tipperary.html

    Cahir House Hotel..

Anyone been here before? It looks alright.. Might give it a bash the Bank Hol wkend..

    http://www.onoffer.ie/offers/9365_enjoy-2-nights-stay-plus-an-evening-meal-for-an-incredible-90pps.aspx

Me and the hubbie stayed here for a weekend a couple of months ago, food was fabulous, staff really friendly, floorboards very creaky but sure you can't have everything - all in all, I'd def recommend it. Lovely scenery around the Vee, and Cahir castle and Swiss cottage worth a visit too.

    The Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise.

The Killeshin is in receivership so i wouldn't pay anything in advance, or if you must, do it by credit card.

The Killeshin appears to be running as normal. I have booked the 79pps deal for next weekend and look forward to it. They took 4 euro off my credit card to secure the booking with the balance payable on arrival. I don't think there is much to worry about, as it says in the article it is being run as a going concern by a hotel management group on behalf of the receivers.

same here im heading to the killeshin for the bank hol weekend got two nights 2 ppl for 84 euro

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭stinky eggs

Do you pay up front for Hotels? I know Ive always just given a lil deposit..

Also, I think there is a few Hotels in receivership who are operating fine...

    Killishin cheaper again on hotelsireland.com
    €79 total price for 1 night B&B (€39.50 pp)
€127 total price for 1 might Dinner, B&B (€63.50 pp)
also availble on Sat nights it seems

    http://www.hotelsireland.com//index.cfm?page_extension=hotelSearchResults

only catch is you have to pay in full in advance, with hotel being in receivership I wouldn't normally do that, but hotels ireland is fully bonded, so between that and paying with visa or mastercard (not laser) I think you should be fairly safe.

Might take a trip myself next weekend!

Great deal in the Maldron Hotel Portlaoise www.maldronhotelportlaoise.com

stay 2 nights and get the 3rd night Free on the bank holiday weekend

also 2 nights bed and breakfast and 1 dinner and free wine 94PPsharing. Great deal too.

kilishin are also doing stay 3 nights, pay for 2. €159 total price for 2 ppl, 2 nights B&B. I would personally go for the killishin to the maldron - the Maldron's are grand, but nothing great. More a corporate type hotel IMO.

I've stayed in two maldron premises and the food was pretty pants in both. If I was staying in a maldron I'd take a cheap room only rate and have food elsewhere. Then you'd be getting a bargain. don't get me wrong, they're clean and rooms are fine, standard mid-range corporate style hotels. We stayed in the one in Wexford on a dinner package, but were very disappointed with the food, both breakfast and dinner. But we did stay there again - but it was only €39 room only, and we had our brekkie and dinner out.

Dunno about the one in portlaoise cos I've never stayed there, but on experience in two of their hotels I wouldn't go for food, or at most B&B but def not dinner.

also just saw this - Dunboyne Castle, a really nice hotel. We stayed there for the Paddys night offer we spotted thanks to boards! they are doing €20 pps room only offer mid week, with access to spa. Not sure if late check out is inc, but worth maybe trying to swing that! they also do a stay Sunday night for free offer, where if you spend €130 your hotel room is inc. €130 can be spent on food, drinks, spa treatment whatever. So you could treat the missis to a spa treatment and get a spot of lunch before you leave and that would cover the whole stay! or have dinner and brekkie the next morning, a few drinks, I'm sure that would cover the price?

Dunboyne castle is a nice spot, so if you can get a good bargain, its def worth it. The €29 package we paid for paddys night comedy gig was the best bargain I've ever had at a hotel!

+1 on that Cincikchick. We stayed last week on a book 2 nights B&B get the 3rd night free and got a free spa treatment too. The food was excellent too (Im a stickler for this when it comes to hotels). All in all €210 for 2 people 3 nights B&B and a spa treatment :D

Stayed in the Killeshin Hotel last week-end on the Supervalu break, really nice hotel, very busy but the staff and food were excellent. They have a leisure centre so the kids were delighted with that. They have great offers in fairness.

Tripadvisor seems to give it a good go, and I see the management respond to posts there.

A hotel manager friend told me that the more management responses to posts, the further up the search list their hotel appears.

The extra €10 pps is for the two nights B&B with one dinner deal. (from €79 to €89)

I can't see any of these deals for it on http://www.hotelsireland.com/ €124 for room only midweek is about the best I see... maybe it depends on the dates?

Anyway, I've taken the plunge and gone for the €89 deal... prove me wrong kids! :)

still €79 total price for double room, B&B. July & August dates. €62 room only, €127 DB&B total price
    http://www.hotelsireland.ie/index.cfm?page_extension=viewCart

    where are you looking?

I'm not sure I really want to know :)

The link you're adding is for your cart so doesn't really tell me anything. I'm booked in for a weekend. So do a search in Laois for 2 nights on 20th Aug for example, I'm seeing €192 for dinner + B&B... I tried a few midweek dates and they're mostly the same... Maybe I'm missing something.

    [edit:
.... ahh... think I've worked it out. €79 for B&B for one night, or €127 for dinner + B&B for one night? Which will be €206 for the 2 nights... which is still more than the €178 I've paid for two nights B&B with one dinner.... I'll stop now!!!]
