Hi. I am thinking of taking mobile broadband and I wondering which one is the best in terms of speed and reliability during peak times. I currently live in Lucan Dublin. Won't be traveling around that much mostly used at home. Thanks in advance :D

This has been asked many times, and the answer will always be the same. Try them all, and pick whatever works best for you. No one else can tell you this, as results will vary from one person to the next. Even the worst networks give the best performance for some user, and the best networks give the worst performance for some.

If you don't need mobility, don't choose mobile midband. It's not suited to fixed use. In Lucan, there should be plenty of real broadband options. Pick one of them.

Ok. Let me rephrase the question. I meant to ask for people who already own mobile broadband to give their opinions, usual speeds and recommendations. I know mobile broadband is not substitute for lets say fibre powered broadband buts its certainly better then eircom in many cases :) Thanks for any replies.

No, not very often at all. 3G is no substitute for DSL, cable, or proper wireless.

I have 3G midband from Vodafone, have also had O2, but couldn't recommend any of them to you, as it would be meaningless. There's only 4, so check them all. Pick one, and if it works then keep it, otherwise move on. No one else's opinion or experience matters at all. Only you can decide which one will be best for you.

Really?? So your saying 0.65 mbs is a reliable speed when your on a 4mbs eircom package?? and the reason I was looking into mobile broadband is cus one of my friends how has it get around 2mb speeds but he lives on the other side of dublin so it could be totally different to what i could get. I wish I had the time( and money) to be able to go and get every broadband package out there and try it!!
If you dont want to give me your opinion on mobile broadband don't but please stop lecturing me on how to do the right thing and how no one's opinion can help me!! I like to take people's opinions and experiences into account before I make my choice. If you don't have an experience to talk about then don't post anything instead of telling me that no ones experience or opinion matters!!

    Going to agree with jor_ell.

I have Vodafone 8mb and am only getting roughly .5mb download speed. I have tried all 4 networks for mobile midband. (They all have a cancellation period) Bought them all at the same time. First day O2 useless, Vodafone useless, Metoer Useless Three brilliant. Secod day 02 brilliant, Vodafone stil useless Meteor OK and Three Ok. Next day Three wouldn't connect. Its just no reliable enough at all.

Truy digiweb chatterbox its €40 a month for calls aswell. I'm getting it myself at the moment.

The reason that jor_el won't give you are recommendation is because it really is best to try them all your self, his opinion is completely dependent on where he is living, and therefore next to useless to you. 3G broadband is completely dependent on your distance from a cell site and how many people in your locale are using it at a time. Thats why they all have a try before you buy thing where you can get a loan of the modem off them for 14 days so that you get a feel of how good it is and then cancel if it isn't up to spec. Even if your next door neighbor was getting on reasonably well with one provider, its entirely possible that you mightn't

    +1
no-one can tell you which is best for your giving location at all i could tell you 3 are the best where i am in meath but thats not saying its going to be any good in lucan..if we could give you a definate answer we would..
if anything maybe give meteor a try first then three next..id probably avoid o2 altough i cant be sure at all what the service is like in lucan..vodafone well ermm if your willing to put up with crappy vodafone go for them but i personally have very bad experiances with them ..you can get trials of each service and whichever one's dont work the best return them within 7 days i think the trials are :p:p

No, I said 3G is no substitute for real broadband. Real broadband can suffer from some problems from time to time, but 3G suffers from inherent issues that effect everyone all of the time. There's a big difference. If you are getting poor speeds out of your DSL, you should try and get that resolved before switching to a 3G operator.

So, you know yourself that your friends opinion isn't worth anything to you, due to the variation across the network, so why would random strangers on the Internet, in many different areas, be of any use to you?

Some networks give free trials, others allow you to return it if you change our mind, and if it doesn't give what you paid for, then you can cancel and return the modem anyway.

I've given you all the info you need, and told you why anyone else's opinion is meaningless to you, as it in no way defines what you should pick for your circumstance or location.

If you want an opinion so badly, then here it is; pick Vodafone, they're brilliant and you can't go wrong. Now, if you do pick Vodafone, you may find the exact opposite is the case, so my opinion, and that of the dozens of other people who could recommend Vodafone, is completely useless to you.

This is not a lecture, it's simple fact. As I stated at the beginning of this thread, no one can tell you which 3G Internet service might work for you. Only you can determine that.

There are only four operators, and you will find plenty of people to recommend each one of them based on their own experience. None of which matters to you, and none of which helps you make a decision anyway.

When buying products and services, that's normally a good way to go about it. But 3G services are individually variable, and general statistics are meaningless to the individual.

You have a strange attitude, you want people to tell you which one to pick, even though that is the wrong thing to do. You don't want to hear how to make the right decision, preferring instead to get the wrong answer. I've told you how to chose the network that will work for you, if any of them will, now you need to do the leg work. Either that or just go and pick Three, job done, but no one can tell you what the outcome will be.

You're the only one continuing this. It's also not silly to point out facts.
