Good man Mark. What do you have in mind? I do a bit of web design and I had a few sites in the past, they never really went anywhere. I had a forum called irishdjforum but its pretty hard to get an active forum going from scratch. What did u have in mind for it? A few sites have tried in the past and no one has succeeded. Irish Clubbing had what looked like a pretty good social networking type site for clubbers etc - it went offline after a few months. Myself and one of the other members had a plan for something similar but it never went much further than the concept stage.

Saying that its not impossible, it certainly could work. I have a domain and an archived userbase you are welcome to if you wanted to try to relaunch it. What did you have in mind for how the site worked? Do you have any wed design / programming skills?

i think its going to be very very hard to get off the ground to be honest.

nowadays people have very specific sites for anything there interested in.
theres dj sites but now theres dj sites thats dedicated to whatever medium your using(traktor, ableton, cdjs etc)

going for the irish thing wouldnt be an angle id work.ive told alot of people(non irish)about boards and that they should join but they say its very irish.what we love might put other people off.

what i will say is that there is a bit of a market for production forums.
dj forums are 10 a penny but a good music production forum is hard to find.
but it would have to be more than just a place with aload of youtube links.youd need to actually create the tutorials i think.

or even a collab site where you offer people storge so they can upload there parts for remixing.

i know its not exactly what your looking for but having a nation specific dj website isnt a selling point with sites like resident advisor and the likes are about

its gonna be very hard to make work but thats not to say you couldnt do it.

If you put in the work it's possible. I'll give you some hosting on my server if you'd like.

I'm open to any suggestions and i like what you said above, production was gonna be part of the site anyway, maybe your right about limiting it to Ireland too, but i was thinking of having 3 sections - DJ - Production - Clubbing.............the clubbing section would kind of have to be Irish

I run another few interest based sites and they need work on them a few times a week, they are slow to get off the ground but if you put the work in eventually they get where you want them too.

I'm sort for hosting mate but thanks for the generous offer

When I read the thread title at first I thought, never heard of him! :D

I think I'd be with Sean on this one. It'd be a very difficult thing to do as there's tonnes of sites out there doing the same thing. This Forum works because it's part of an overall one stop shop all your forum needs kinda thing.

You'd essentially be trying to get everybody here to use another site for the same thing.

I wish you best with and hopes it works out for ya, but I reckon it'd be a tricky thing to do.

Colly: I think I remember that site that you had (was it back in your "Colly" days?)
What was the name of it?

boards is ultimately a chat forum, there are no specific features for DJ/Production.

I remember that site too it was full of bugs LOL

I know well, I'm sure if you keep a good interest and get a few people on board with the same level of interest, you'll be grand ;)

Hahah yeah Baz I had a good few sites. Which one do you mean? The main one was www.digital.dj which basically got robbed from me a few months ago. The hosting company never sent me a reminder that the domain was up for renewal, and someone nabbed it. because it's a .dj it cost me €120 a year just for the domain and I put a huge amount of work into it but lagged off towards the end. At the beginning my intention was to make a djtechtools / scratchworx type site - I got decent traffic, circa 5,000 unique hits a month, I should really have put some advertising on it.. It had a forum on the back of it which got busy at the start but slowly died. Irishdjforum was the same, got a few at the beginning but also attracted a few hard house teenagers which did not help. I even tried to start a blog which just had mixes from Irish artists - I thought it would be interesting but didn't get the response level I expected so I let it die also.

I enjoy tinkering with sites and playing about with design etc - but I don't really have the will/drive/time to constantly update it with fresh content - which really is the most important thing, it's why anyone would come to a site in the first place. I lack the 'journalist' side needed for these things really.

I have to say fair play to the people who have done it correctly. www.Phonic.ie www.deadl.ie and www.connected.ie are a few I know of - I'm sure there are loads more. I'd really love to see how their business model etc works - number of hits the website gets, advertising, costs etc. It's a dam tough business. But when it works well, its works really well...

Think it was Irishdjforum, but I don't advise anyone to search for it now. A virus alert just came up when I checked it there. :/

Oh yeah I see that now. That is a fukker of a virus took me ages to get rid of it. I have not even looked at the site but its obviously back, I should take it offline really

to be honest what keeps a forum alive is the OT section.

if you have enough members they will update the OT section with enough stuff to keep people interested.

if you do a strictly djing/production/clubbing site people will get bored.

not to gone on the names to be honest.

i understand that you feel you need to have house or at least some dj reference in there for when people google keywords but surely the sites that are established already with house in them will push you to the back of the list.

i really wouldnt know what to advise you as i think itll be very very hard to make work.

maybe your best bet is to keep on the lookout for new unsigned talent and approach them about a showcase on your site with a writeup.

you could then email out a download of a song the artist has done to your memeber and ask them for feedback for the artist.

just an idea, very hard to come up with something unique these days
