    Hi All,

With the situation with 1800hotels I was wondering if anyone could recommend some other good sites for booking hotels?

    Thanks

    Normally booking.com or otel.com

Check the about us section on any site you are thinking of using, make sure the parent is a reputable company.

If you are booking with one of the chains check their own sites, they often price match and at least you are avoiding the middle man and dealing directly with the operator.

For any non chain bookings I'd recommend booking.com

Thanks guys. It looks as if booking.com and the hotel sites themselves are the way to go.

Definitely booking.com great customer service and they will bend over backwards to help you. I use them regularly for group bookings and they've never let me down.

    Definately Booking.com

Booked 4 hotels in france in june, great service

Plus they use credit card number to secure room but do not take the payment, you pay the hotel on arrival, unlike 1800 who took the payment up front.

I use this site to compare prices. I'd never rely on one site every time. Price differences can be substantial.

I regularly use ratestogo.com (the last minute version of Hotel Club) and sometimes booking.com. Hotels.com annoys me by not including taxes and charges in the price quoted initially but can still be the cheapest.

hotelpricebot.com compares all the booking sites. It's the first place to look when booking a hotel.
The advanced search is good too.

    http://www.hotelpricebot.com/

If booking.com are near enough to the bottom price I use them.

Booking.com for me too! And here's why- I don't have to pay upfront before I go. Also, I can alter and cancel without incurring any penalty. Reviews on the site by the previous guests are also of great assistance.

The are a smaller number of listings with a lower price available as well and these are only on a prepaid basis and cannot be altered or cancelled, or you will forfeit the whole amount paid. I haven't the temperament for that option!

Booking.com is now being used by Ryanair on its site. Unfortunately, more exposure, so perhaps less opportunity to pick up the best of the bargains.

Generally, I check the hotels own prices too. I did get a hotel in Rome, which was €11 per night cheaper than Booking.com and as the hotel had the same terms and conditions I booked with it.

Another vote for booking.com mainly because you don't hand over any cash till you get to your accommodation.

    I also use http://www.trav.com/
They take a small deposit but I'd never use a site where you have to pay everything upfront!

Have always used alpharooms.com - almost always the cheapest.

    www.hotelbunch.com

Used this comparison site recently and found it the best of the comparison sites. You will see from this that very often booking.com is not the cheapest. However it may be safer than some options

Yes, but sometimes it's a case of "buy cheap, buy twice", as I have sometimes found out to my cost.

www.activehotels.com but I think it is a sister site of booking.com

Whya are people mentioning customer service here? You go to the site and book your hotel. Why would you ever need to deal with the website's CS unless something went wrong - in which case...
