Anyone got any pointers for a postgrad new to DCU and surrounding area? I was hoping for a house or appartment with other final/postgrads but none of those student accoms, too expensive and mostly freshers I hear!

    Hi!

I'll be starting a postgrad at DCU in Sept and am currently looking for accom. So I'm basically in the same position you where in last year.

I was wondering how you got on?

Where did you end up living and how happy were you with it? Any tips would be really great!

    Thanks!:D

Hey. I ended up in a house with another postgrad I know plus two final year randomers. It worked out way cheaper than oncampus and it was a nice house. Also it was only a few minutes walk from campus so I was happy enough.

A lot of postgrads I knew lived on campus accommodation so sometimes felt like was missing out but then others it was nice to have space away from everyone you got to see every day of the week anyway.

    Hello
We have a room just off collins avenue in whitehall....
House is lovely there is 3 of us in it at the minute.... the room we have left is a double room. 2 of my friends are in dcu and im working ages are 19-21. We have a driveway and a big back garden, big kitchen and sitting room too. We are close to all the busses and dcu is only 10 mins down the road anyway. The estate is very quiet and everyone is lovely.
Drop us an email if any of use are interested as we need someone asap discokiid@hotmail.com

My friends Uncle has a house in the Drumcondra area, across from the Drumcondra Train Station.

Its 5mins bus to DCU and 15mins walk to the city centre.

At the end of the day you are better off being somewhat closer to the city centre so that you can walk home at night time after a few beers etc.

The vicnity of DCU is dead at night time really as there seems not to be much to do.

Also he is looking for mature persons to look after the house.

PM me and I will send your details on to him.

I was just wondering if others agree with this? Are you really better off living closer to town than DCU itself? I really just want to know where exactly I should start looking for accommodation!

I would say a 15min. walk to the Spire and a 5min bus drive to DCU is suitable.

You also have an alternative to cycle for 10mins max. to DCU.

Think about it in terms of getting a taxi home on a Wednesday or Thursday night after a night out in the city.

Others feel free to post, my two-pence worth anyway

    I'd recommend nearer to DCU.
[Unless you're going to be spending every night in town, but it's a tenner for a taxi out].

Off campus around DCU is good in that you're close to the college [ideally] but not so close that you never go in [like living on campus], at least that's what I've found.
