Never heard of short term policies. Your best bet is take out an annual policy, go on monthly installments and cancel when you no longer need it.

You can still be made pay off the policy, you are getting a loan off the insurance company to pay the full premium not paying the premium by the month. Not too sure how much they will charge, but you will end up paying more then 1 months payment and could be forced to honour the full loan you took out.

The only legal way of doing it is to pay the full premium and then cancel the policy after a week, but again you won't get 11 months money back.

Ring you insurance company and request a temporary sub from your current vehicle to the lorry. I'm not sure of the situation due to the size/weight/category difference but it may be possible for them to do it. You may have to pay an extra bit, but usually not if it's just for a week.

You asked this earlier... bounce the old thread rather than post a new one!

And as I replied on the old one, for cars at least Quinn let you cancel a direct debit policy at any time for a €50 admin charge plus the fractional cost of the insurance to date.

Even if you pay the full amount up front you will get a refund if you cancel the policy within the year. They might take out some kind of charge for cancelling early, but they will refund you the difference. I canceled my policy after 6 months last year because my old insurance company wouldnt insure my new ITR and I got a cheque back from the 3 days later for the balance of what I paid (wasnt charged anything extra either).

Not sure about one month tho; they might have a minimum period that you have to keep the policy for. I dont think they do, but it would have to be clarified with them before handing over any money.

It must have changed or different companies policies. I looked into cancelling a policy years ago and the policy I was on didn't refund the full amount back. In the end I just suspended the policy, not much good for the OR

The best thing for you to do is call a few brokers and say this to then. They will be able to tell you if it's possible or not. Don't go straight to insurance companies as they will just say no chance.

Depends on how long you are into the policy. On my policy I think 10 months is considered a full year, so if I take out the policy in January and cancel in November I get nothing back. If I cancel in June however I get 4 months worth back.
