    Hi
I am buying a 2010 car in the UK, first registered in the UK on January 1st 2010, it currently has 3697 miles on it (5915kms). Revenue website states that the car must be both 6 months old (which it is) and also have 6000kms or else vat will be charged.
I know with something this new rev will look for a copy of the invoice, which will also display the mileage.
The car will have well over the 6000kms by the time I bring it back from the UK, but dont know if revenue calculate potential vat charged on date of presentation (which will be the next business day after I bring it in) or calculate it based on the miles at time of purchase?????

Garage wont put up the miles 53 miles!!, as car will have to go through a 120 point check again.....

Bring it for a test drive 42.5km up and down the motorway.

They are supposed to base it on the order date so if your invoice lists the odometer reading, your going to be paying VAT also

I would suggest you tell the garage to stick it if they are serious about not putting up the miles on the car.
DO NOT accept the car with less than 6k km on the clock as you will pay the vat.

Alternatively, if under 6k km, you can do a vatless export from the uk & then pay the vat here. form - UK VAT 411. THe garages dont seem to acknowledge this in the uk but it is perfectly allowable, without being registered for vat as you are simply agreeing to pay the vat in one EU state.

    Thanks Guys.
I will talk to the dealer tomorrow, only got an email from them this evening telling this.
Am also going to contact revenue and get confirmation either way.

What are you talking about? I've gone through the process of bringing in and clearing a car at over 6 months and just under 6k. I simply drove it until it reached 6k and then presented it at the art office. The v5 showed the age and the odometer showed over 6000.

Buddy of mine did this recently
He needed some miles clocked up as well so asked the dealer to drive it for the weekend to bring it above the requirements
    Then he did the deal

Spoke to Revenue and it is mileage on presentation at VRO office, noting that the car must be presented the next working day after entry into the jurisdiction. I will be well over the 6000km so, and the dealer is going to put in 3800 miles on invoice, so sorted:)

The 3800 mile invoice will sort ya out for sure.
