It looks like it has USB sockets on the tower, which would be very handy.

i picked up one of these the last time they were selling them. Great bit of kit, those ports on the fron are usb and ethernet as far as i can remember.

I would recommend this to anyone still just using an extension lead!:D

Reckon I'd better camp outside Aldi tomorrow night - these seem a bargain and sound like they'll be going pretty quick!

Worth getting but also a point worth noting -

    Telephone lines carry voltage.

Last Thursday night during the heavy thunder and lightning a telephone and broadband modem were fried at my parents house. The phone completely died, the modem still powered on but refused to acknowledge the DSL signal. No other electrical items were affected. Both had to be replaced. We suspect that it was the telephone line that was responsible.

All electrical cables carry voltage:D, your voice/data is transmitted as electrical signals.

That's the reason why you shouldn't use a wired phone when there are thunder storms local. Can get a nice shock.

Plugging the phone line into this will reduce the risk of this happening.

Bit off topic here so apologies in advance.

Years ago, back in the dial up days, Ennis was awarded the title of Information Age Town (I could go off on a major rant on this, but I won't now :)), 1 of the incentives was that everyone was given the opportunity to buy a cheap desktop (Dell OptiPlex). 1 night there was a thunder storm, half the towns modems were fried, not enough power to hurt someone who was on the phone, but it did damage the internal circuits of the modems.

I also remember when I was younger, phones had a small plug on them (round pins), if there was a thunder storm you had to plug out the phone, 1 time my mother didn't and there was scorch marks on the top of the fridge (where the phone was left)

The Switch at the top of the unit powers all the plugs off, handy as i have all my equiptment hooked up to it, flip the switch at night and it all turns off. No more standby lights.:D

Nope, what you get are 2 english telephone sockets (but just 1 irish->english lead), 2 RJ45 (network) sockets and then 2 modem/dsl sockets (our RJ11s)

I've used the english lead to connect the tower to my wall socket and the tower does the line splitting itself so the phone has gone into one of the RJ11s and the modem into the other.

Thanks. I went to the local ALDI at lunchtime and they didn't have any!
