Did anyone watch the 4 part tv programme on BBC1 called the Silence? It was on Monday to Thursday..

Basically about this deaf girl who witnesses a murder of a policewoman, problem is that her Uncle is investigating the murder case and also a corruption case within the Drug Squad..

I missed the first night but watched the other 3.. I loved it and the actors were brilliant.. only problem, if tonights was really the last part.. it ended really badly. The two cases were no-where near solved and it's left me asking questions..

I decided to watch all of it, no matter what, and it certainly seemed to drag its heels much of the way through, occasionally speeding up, before losing momentum and slowing down again.

Ten minutes before the end of the final episode, I was thinking "How the hell are they going to resolve this in ten minutes?". Five minutes later, I was even wondering whether there was another final episode that I didn't know about, and then, another five minutes later it was all gone, and so was the four hours of my life that I'd wasted watching it.:(

I think the writer must have wanted to write about a bolshy deaf girl and the trouble she was having after a cochlear implant, and decided to make it more interesting by introducing the "police, police-corruption, murder, drugs" sub-plot. The cochlear implant problem was solved, but 90% of the rest of it went by the wayside.

Excellent premise, great acting, let down by a really ill thought out ending.

It was a thoroughly dissatisfying end to what could have been a great 4 parter. There was plenty in the other 3 episodes they could have 'rushed' in order to give a good ending, instead they rushed the last 20 minutes and ruined it. :(

I really liked the acting of Amelia and Jim. I understand your point of solving the cochlear implant but I thought the whole programme was around the murder and corruption of the police? If I knew it was going to end like that I wouldn't have bothered

I thought that ending was going to piss people off! Where's my "satisfying denoument?" etc. Well sometimes you have to write the rest yourself. I liked it, the psychological isolation angle was was overplayed at times for melodramatic effect but overall a solid bit of work esp on the acting front. Genevieve Barr could have a real career ahead of her, though sterotyping is bound to be an issue.

The bit that you had to write yourself was episode 5.:P

Once "Rocky" decided to wise up then the game would be up for the criminal element in the Drug Squad. There would be little point in having an episode where we see some arrests, some interviews and some charges brought. The actual plot had run its course by the end of part 4.
