Are there any PG specific facilities in DCU or many PGs?

The PG facilities I know off are a Post grad only study room in the library. This is located on the bottom floor and is really handy. Very quiet with about 40 computers and plenty of space to study. There is also other rooms around the college for Post grads only.
There seems to be a lot of post grads around. I know in my program there was around 160 students between 3 courses. The recession has sent a lot of people back to college.

Sweet that sounds nice, none of that at my undergrad college and even as a final year was wishing there was something for us then! Thanks for the fast reply, only a few days to decide which PG to accept and really clueless about DCU.

Ya Postgrads seem to be treated well in DCU. Id say there will be even more this year as I think most undergrads are applying for p grad courses in final year so as not to be wasting time unemployed and looking for work when finished.
Nearly finshed in DCU just wrapping up thesis out of here by end of August. Was first year and would recomend it, excellent facilities especially if your into sport. Social life is ok but being a post grad ya prob wont head out much. There is a decent bar on campus and Matt Weldons across the road. Work ethic is very high so be warned. DCU like to have the reputation of working people hard which I suppose is good and they make sure that reputation is kept but just keep on top of things and ya will be grand.
Also seen that the apartments I was living in for the year have no dropped their rates by nearly 20euro a week which prob means all accom prices will come down.
So ya in summary its not a bad place to go :)

Haha I barely made it out in final year, looked forward to starbucks breaks instead from the library more often sadly! I know I will have to work even harder as a PG but doing exams this summer (professional, not college) should really have me already in a better study pattern than a summer of fun. As you mentioned accommodation, any tips for looking for accom suited to a DCU PG? Really must take a trip out to visit when I'm in the city in a few weeks to really get an idea of the place.

For accomadation I remember I applied for the on campus post grad accomadation run by the college. There was a big list so didnt get it. Maybe better off as this is situated right on the campus as in a five minute walk to most classrooms library etc. Very handy alrite but some people kinda want to get away from the place.
I ended up stayin in purpose built student accomdation beside the college, very close which is handy. Was expensive enough but had no hassle during the year.
Here is the DCU Post grad accomdation http://www.dcu.ie/invent/funding.shtml
Other purpose built student accom http://www.dcustudentaccommodation.com/ - some of these have come down in price so worth a look.
Ya can always look around the Santry/Ballymun Road/Collins Ave area aswell on daft or whatever.
DCU is very handy to get to aswell from City centre, off the top of my head the 19a,13a,4a all go from O Connell st to opp DCU

Haha I was literally just checking up which buses, there seems to be loads, pity luas doesnt run by DCU! I am in two minds about accommodation location. My roomie for the past few years is going for the same course as me but in UCD so maybe get a place thats suited to both. Otherwise would love to live 5 mins away from college as the closer the better for late study sessions and early mornings but budget issues effected that and of course I am rather late getting this sorted I suppose. At least I know the city (and the southside) so can't be that hard to sort myself out especially with friendly people like you!

I have one last question about library opening hours. My grad uni had really good long hours (8am - 2am most days and is probably going 24 hour now) but could only see summer timetable for DCU. Don't worry I'm not that much of a study freak, just am a total insomniac!

Thanks for everything, good luck with the thesis!

    8.30am to 10pm weekdays.

Thats really decent opening hours in your Uni. Unfort DCU isnt as good as that. During the year its 8.30am - 10pm Monday to Friday and 930-5 Saturdays. In the lead up to exams they open on Sundays till 5. I found it did the job but coming up towards major project time I would leave Library at 10 and keep working at home so it was handy being right beside the college. Ya have plenty of time to sort stuff out.

    Good luck with it

Thanks cool running for all your help. Library opening hours are really a strong factor on where to live for me; I will have to definitely live in a place I can study because 10pm is so early! I have been strongly recommended by a friend to go for the PG accom but I'll have to see and sure it might be full. Heading up in two weeks for CAP1 exam so will look round then. :)

If any PGs starting in September wander in, see accommodation thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055974047

Hope someone proof reads cool running's thesis.

The postgrad accommodation in dcu is either side of the bar, might be loud, if that bothers you

It's a shame you bothered to post as it's the like of your comments that serve to discourage people posting useful information.

By the way it's proof reads, there is no apostrophe ;)
