Very few -'b4' and 'u' mainly.
I usually write things out fully though.

    I hate this so much.

I used to use text abbreviations when I was younger. But now I type out full worded texts, my spelling got better because of it...(maybe that's the predictive text!!!)

The only time I'd use <3 is on facebook and that makes a proper heart! Question marks are for questions.....right??!! :P

I'll sound like an old granny for this but these fecking abbreviations are the reason why kids can't spell anymore. Sometimes they over spell....X is a babeee....Thanxx babesss...CHRIST!

I don't use them. No excuse for it. They are used by fucking morons.

I think the only two I've ever used were LOL and BRB and that was just to save time when I was talking to someone on Messenger or in a chat room. I wouldn't use them on a forum, I'd rather type out full words. Often when I see an abbreviation in a forum I have to Google what it means.

I really don't. I use predictive text on my phone, it actually takes much longer to put in text speak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,775 ✭✭✭Fittle

I cant, for the life of me, use predictive text...it just confuses me so much:confused:

    I also hate abbreviation text....
I looked this up only a a little while ago, because someone replied to my post saying ftw.
Haven't a clue what it meant.

I can't imagine someone telling the truth would ever use "IAAD" or "IAAL"...if they do, they should have their title stripped from them

I hate anything more than an absolute minimal use to txt spk... u, 2,brb etc etc fine for messaging and chat. IMO, IIRC etc I'll use occassionaly on message boards. Anything more annoys me... I shouldn't have to google it just to figure out what the hell is being said!

I hate text abbreviations only ever used them a few times on MSN. I probably speak them more than text or type but it's usually just to annoy friends. I don't see a point really, I mightn't be the best with spelling but adleast I am not trying to spell incorrectly!

I hate these girls who TyPe LyKe DiS and add XxXxXxX to every sentence. This just annoys me!

I have never nor would I ever, use text abbreviations while texting.

Things like that are the dumbing down of society.

even morse code is faster than text, no excuse for it's use on any device with half decent input interface.

I dont mind people using abbreviations in Texts but when they start using them in an actual conversation I go mad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,378 ✭✭✭mojesius

I find it annoying and off-putting...Why has 'what' become 'wat'? It's just one extra letter

I very rarely use abbreviations. I don't even type "lol", because to be truthful, it's a load of bollox. No one really 'laughs out loud' when they send it, and what's worse is people saying it in real life.

There is enough abbreviations for Oxford to create a text abbreviation dictionary

Have never used them thank god. Except for tmw sometimes (tomorrow).

One of the things I really like about boards is that "txt spk" is frowned upon!

I like what they describe FUBAR as :D
FUBAR: Fouled up beyond all recognition

If anybody learnt all them they wasted far too much time, they could have learn to seek spanish, french or italian and went picking up chicks

I find that texts like " stop bothering me", "why are you still here " and " go away " are quite effective

The first person who says lol to me in person is going to get a punch

Anyone I text is important enough to type the full message into the phone and with predictive text , it's not difficult.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,456 ✭✭✭✭ibarelycare

In text messages, to save space, I use abbreviations such as "u" or numbers in place of too, to, for, etc.

However I never use them online or even in an IM conversation. No excuse.

I posted this before but I was emailing a travel agent a few months ago about booking flights to Australia. A few emails were exchanged and the last one from her said "Do u want me 2 book it 4 u?" I just didn't reply. I don't like text speak anyway, but to use it in professional/work situations is unforgivable!

I hate them. I know about two of them...

*insert very long post using only text speak*

Never use it in emails, conversations, etc. Besides the occasional lol, btw, brb, etc.

However, in texts I would tend to use them a little. More so shortening of words rather than acronyms. This is habit out of the text limit of an SMS. If my message is short, I might use full words.

The main aim is to get the message across. If it does that, the job is done.
