Counselling on low wage

Hi. I hope I've posted this in the right place but mods feel free to move if it's not!!

I an very overweight and have tried every diet, slimming club, motivation clinic, blood test diet, pill out there to little or no sucess. I cant go on like this and I think I need some counselling or something like that to get to the route my frankly obsessive behaviour around food. I know what I should do- eat less, move more but I need to get my head sorted.

I have no extra money leftover to pay for counselling so I dont know what to do. I tried OA about 9 years ago but found that I could never speak up over the others who were much more vocal and I felt so crap after I'd just go on a huge binge so I stopped going.

Is there any help out there for low paid persons? I have full med card. Thanks

If you go to your GP he/she may refer you to one of the many free HSE services.

Also there are other agencies who offer low cost counselling, and indeed many therapists work on a sliding, negotiable scale also. If you do a google search for low cost counselling you will probably find a few. If you wish to PM me your location I may know of somewhere near you.

    I found this old post

The HSE Info Line on 1850 24 1850 may also be of use.

There is also the HSE National Counselling Service

My understanding is that its primary aim is to look after those who were abused but that it will not refuse clients. Their Helpline 1800 477 477 shows opening times of Wednesday to Sunday 6.00pm -10.00 pm. I tried them before for a friend who had all manner of excuses for not seeing private / college / specialist counsellors but to be honest I had difficulty making contact and ultimately went private.

I dont know your circumstances but if you are in college / university most academic institutions have access to counseling for all students, even outside of term time in certain circumstances. Furthermore if you or the individual are Religious some churches have priests/ lay people who are fully qualified as counselling psychologists and will facilitate some sessions.

    I also see Bodywhys
