If your Driving licence has expired is your insurance policy invalid?

technically i think its not, as im sure the insurance would require a licenced driver to be in control.

to save the hassle, just renew your license ASAP, the motor tax office give you a receipt for your renewal and that covers you to drive.

generally they will still pay out claims. i know my policy says "holds or has held a license". check with your insurance company or your policy documents for a 100% accurate answer.

They will still honour all third party claims.

No, your insurance policy is still valid unless there is a clause in your policy that states that your driving licence has to be in force.
The policy will state, who holds a driving licence or having held a driving licence is not disqualified from holding such licence.

twenty or so years ago if you failed to renew your licence within five years of expiry it ceased to be renewable therefore you were disqualified from holding such a licence until you went through the whole process again. This was later changed to ten years and if my memory serves me correctly an expired licence can be renewed irrespective of the number of years it has lapsed.
The only aspect that can affect this is a health problem or on reaching 70 yrs of age and not having the required doctors cert.

Some classes of course require a doctors cert on each occasion but once you produce the cert you are not held to be disqualified. whew!

Mine was "holds or has held within the past 10 years", it may be different in each policy.
Definitly best to read the specific policy (or online t&c) and check for yourself to be sure OP.

I am reasonably sure that the 10 year period of "grace" in which to renew a licence or face disqualification has been removed and a licence can now be renewed irrespective of the passage of time.
