Guitar Multi-effects Pedal!

Okay here's the deal... I'm looking for a new multi-effects pedal for my guitar. My budget is around €300, and the pedal needs to have a tuner, wah-wah pedal, looper and obviously quite a few effects.

Can anyone shed some light as to what pedal I should buy(most likely from Germany)? I was looking at the BOSS ME-70, but my mate has that and I don't want a carbon copy of his pedal. What do people think of the VOX TONELAB LE? I'm thinking of buying it... Although I'm not sure if it has a tuner built in?:pac: Help!

Have a look around adverts or ebay and see if you can get a second hand boss gt-8 or even a gt-10 , great bits of kit.

I bought a Pod XT Live a few years ago and I still haven't gotten to grips with all of the tonal possibilities it offers. Its easy integration with my computer is a godsend. Mind you, it doesn't have a looper and is out of your price range if €300 is your limit unless you look for a second hand one.

How much did it set you back?

    EDIT; just seen the link.

I didn't buy it from Thomann as it happens, I bought it from GAK as the exchange rate with Sterling at the time meant I saved a bit more money. I honestly can't remember how much I paid for it at the time, probably around €400.

Thanks for the info. I've actually really taken a liking to the Boss GT-8, but I can't seem to buy a new one anywhere.... I wonder do they still sell them?

I had a vox Tonelab before and I wasn't overly impressed by it. No looper either.

I have a Pod X3 Live now and the sounds are much better but I don't have the patience to work with it so I'm getting rid. No looper either. Some great effect though and you can run dual effects like a Crunchy tone and a Chorus/Delay tone at the same time. Only your imaginations can limit you :)

However, what I use nearly all the time now is a TC Electronics Nova system. Great effect, simple to use. Not for you though as no looper or wah.

A tad OT, but I'm seriously considering one of those. But then again, the Carl Martin Quattro... yum!

THe GT8 went out of production a few years ago. It has been superseeded by the GT-10. This sells for about 440 new in Irish shops and the same price from Germany.

You might be able to pickup a secod hand GT-8 on adverts as they sometimes pop up there.

The Digitech Rp500 and 1000 had a firmware release that introduced a looper. Although there were teething problems and I'm fecked if I can figure out how to use it... But they're good, solid hunks of metal that make pretty noises; not sure how they're regarded in general but I've no complaints about my 500 - it was less than 300 new so I'm sure you'd get a second hand one for a decent price.

Ya the GT-10 is a bit too pricey for me tbh, but my friend has one and says it's unbelievable but just really hard to master. I'd love a GT-8. Presume it has a tuner and looper?:pac:

    What do ye guys use?

I really wanted a multi effect as I have limited space and found I didn't have the time or space to plug in loads of different little boxes. I was getting tired of going straight into the amp, or straight in with a dirt box. So I ended up, like many people, investing in an M9.

It's maybe a bit over your budget there's nothing close to it out at the moment, not with a looper anyway.

If you need Amp modelling though, I'm not sure. Digitech have the best bang for buck modeling but I think the effects are less than stellar.

    Okay I'm stuck between the Boss GT-10/Boss GT-8, the Line 6 POD and the Vox Tonelab LE. Here are the links;

    Vox

What do ye reckon? Lets say I could get a second hand GT-10 for €300, do ye think that would win out? I'm really taken by both the GT-8 and GT-10.

If you like I can add a poll to the thread for you. My vote goes for the Pod XT Live anyway :).

If you're just looking for effects and not amp modelling, an M9 would be better and you could probably get one second hand for €300. I paid about about 350 for mine new I think.

Go with the gt 10 man , i tried both side by side for a good few hours , and the boss won over on quality of tone and the quality of the effects.

"other" specifically Boss ME 20 because it's a third of the price and for some of us it's the 10 hour practice sessions that count.

    cheers.

Does anyone know the main differences between the GT-8 and the GT-10?

I got an ME-25, built in sounds are crap but it has that cosm amp modelling **** and you can get some really lovely tones, looper wah and all brand new for €130 i think, perfect as it's nice and neat and is compatible via usb with ableton and all other top brand software, sonar etc..

Worth checking out and will save you a few quid

The Gt-10 is slightly more user friendly , Thee is a phrase looper on the gt-10 , there isnt much of a difference to be honest if you just want it for general use , Go for that gt-8 man.

    Pods sound like arse ,

I have an xt with all the packs installed - thought they were pretty good until
I heard and then bought the digitech GSP 1101

think of it as 85% an AXE fx but 66% cheaper .

its one of the most amazing things ive heard in terms of modelling and effects.

play it through the power amp stage of a tube amp and you will be stunned.

and for home recording - its just the bollox.

Borrowed my friend's GT-10 for 2 days and I must admit it is unreal for various effects and amp models. Although it is quite confusing and I reckon could prove very difficult to gig with due to all the various effects and add on's.

    Still unsure?:pac:

    M9 looks cool.

Once you get your head around it , its not confusing at all , i gig with it every week , you se up your various patches and away you go , the beauty of it is if you want to alter a patch , just copy it to anpther location so you keep the origional.

How do you like the amp/overdrive sounds??

Ya I'd say after about a week or two of constant practice on it, you'd eventually crack it and find the exact sounds you want. I think my problem would be, say I had an effect on bank 2 for the main part of the song, but for the solo of the song I needed an effect on bank 22, there isn't any quick way to switch up the banks quickly if you get me?:pac:

The overdrive sounds are unbelievable especially for lead and metal. Tbh I think there are too many metal banks and not enough synth effects, etc.

    Did you buy yours new?

Organise your banks so that the sounds you need are close together , I use 3 banks dureing a gig .

My main one has the 4 main tones i will use , Clean , Rythm , lead1 and lead2

The other 2 banks are pretty much the same but i have the controller pedals set to do different things.

See my main problem is I'm all set on this second-hand GT-8 but there is no looper! So I was thinking of buying a Boss RC-2 loop pedal but that's another €150!:pac: It's all so expensive.

Ive had the GT-8 for a few years and its a great bit of gear. It does require a bit of learning at the start but thats half the fun, experimenting with it and getting these crazy sounds. If you want to get the most out of it have a look at the forums on http://www.bossgtcentral.com/ Theres lots of information there on it and some tutorials.

Yeah I love the M9. Do you have it? The only problem with me is that it's a bit too pricey and it dosen't have an expression pedal, therefore you'd have to add at least another €70 on to the €330 for the pedal itself.... That's €400!:pac:

Hey ya I've a feeling it should be fun to mess around with. Do you reckon its a good deal to get one second-hand for €200? Like would it be worth it compared to other products of that price range?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭KevLeppard

Go for the BOSS GT 8. U can pick them up for about 200 to 250 second hand. Very good gear. Used one at a gig and very impressed with it.

As far as recording is concerned, which pedal would be the best investment,or would there be much of a difference between the higher end models?
