What Are The Warning Signs For Gland Rupture?

I took my dog into the vet today as she had conjunctivitis and he told me that I was lucky to bring her in when I did as it appeared as though her anal glands were going to rupture.

The dog has been as happy as larry, no warning signs that I can think of so how does one tell that they are going to rupture?

The only thing I noticed was that she had two small dark spots/bruises either side of her [bum] but i figured they were there from when she last had the glands drained. Also, I never had this anal gland drainage thing with my male dogs!

Was she scraping her bum along the ground or constipated at all?
