I was in wicklow last Friday for a spin with the Mrs to take a look though sally gap and the national park...
Must of seen atleast 300 more like 400 deer in my 5 hour visit..
I took some footage with the cam corder...some of its a bit shakey but just put that down to old age and lack of beer...;)

    Hope you enjoy..

Great Video, I go up there very often, live 15 mins away . It's amazing how close you can get to them , have no permissions up that way :( so it's always just teasing. great to see and watch their behavior though.

not quite...Its good for about 6-800 yds on game but in my hands only 300 yds..

I have it more for plinking way out....
The 7mm08 is for the deer..

i'd say you might bless one or two stags with the winny, it would be a shame not to.

7mm 08 is a great cal by all accounts. Is it much of a kicker?

With scope and all? I would have thought it would be about the same as a 308.

with scope, no sling and bipod though....I guess its like a 308...
Its a bit whippy as the barrel is only 13.5mm at the muzzle and 16.5mm at the end of the forend of the stock.. the stock only weighs 22 ounces so it is really well balanced for carrying in one hand which is handy for woodland stalking...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,102 ✭✭✭Hibrion

That's a nice light setup. It sounds ideal for woodland stalking.

It's Luggala estate not national park, 400-500 deer shot each year. Thats the difference between profesional deer management and amateur hunters. The deer don't associate people with danger and are not stressed.

Im sure "profesional hunters" were amature hunters at one stage..
One must crawl before he can walk
One must walk before he can run;)

Its a lovely spot and very well minded...
All dues to the lads in charge..
