    hey all
was doing some research on a school and came across the school i was teaching in within this search.
i had a quick look through as ive never been on this site before. was surprised to see my name there. from lookin through my comments i could see that it was all pretty harmless.
i dunno if im alone on this but i was really taken aback by havin my name there for anybody to comment about.
i contacted the website about gettin my name removed and theyre refusing which jst made me mad and wanna get it down even more!!

Is that still going? I would have been about 14 or 15 when that came out for Irish schools and every teacher in the school went up on it. You could clearly tell from the comments who had posted them (I admit I did post a not-so-nice comment about a teacher who had a grudge against me and I against her :o) but at the same time, some of the teachers got fantastic responses and it probably was a real ego boost.

IMO, if teachers don't put in the effort or hate their job or treat students unfairly, they can hardly be surprised to see "Immature, acts like a teenager and just tells us to read the book" as comments. You know yourself what's truth and what's a lie as regards to what goes on in your classroom.

At the end of the day, I would just regard it as harmless fun. If the comment weren't harsh OP, I wouldn't worry about it. Unless the comments are particularly abusive, I doubt RMT will remove your name- how would they prove it's really you anyway?

Nobody uses this site any more. I'm amazed that this is the first time you've come across it. Most teachers were so outraged when it first came out that they checked it out. I'm also surprised that you got a reply and that someone is still working on it.

It's old news, not worth worrying about. Forget it. The rest of the teaching profession has.

P.S. I'm deliberately ignoring the post above. We've been through this debate before.

I apologise if I offended you, the OP asked if anyone had any comments on the site, those were my comments.

My mums a teacher and hates this site, even though she got good responses mostly, its a waste of time though and as said no one uses it anymore, it was popular when I was in 6th year I think which I think is around 4 years+ now but that was due to it being the new in thing to be doing, I wouldnt worry about it tbh though

Not offended at all! It's just that this debate has been done to death.

It was popular from about 2004-2006. Youll notice most comments are from then. I know a teacher that happily admitted to rating himself for the laugh. Surprisingly most comments are positive about most teachers and of course you get the usual very intelligent "total gobsh*te" etc.

total dead in the water. Unfortunately some kids aren't mature when it comes to leaving comments hence stuff like bad dress sense etc was left or a kid who hated their teacher for reasons other than their own maknig would also blame the teacher. Unfortunately because you don't know what class etc the student is in or level they are taking, its very hard to use any comments to better your teaching. e.g. he goes too fast but doesn't state if they are 1st year resource or lc higher or even if the child is trying to do higher and shouldn't anyways and will always be too quick.
Total rubbish of a website and I hate the anonymous nature when its abused

www.rateyourstudent.com?? Turn it around on its head, see how the students like that! It would cause quite a stir, and a few court cases if the boot were on the other foot! Would not even go there, and no self-respecting teacher should let it worry them in the least.

www.ratetheirparenting.com would be a right laugh.

Comments are still left about teachers in our school on average three times a week. I'm not currently listed so I haven't experienced any negative or positive comments.

From what I can see from my old school, most of the comments are a total rubbish. The most highly rated teachers are those who were very friendly with the students and more interested in being "cool" or whatever than actually being a good teacher.

Laughing away to myself here after seeing Spurious' thread, how very, very true! As for RMT, who cares?! It's only an annoyance if you let it get to you. I've found there is often some truth in the comments left, some of mine are hilarious where the students totally picked up on phrases I overuse. My OH, looked it up one night and nearly wet himself laughing at how accurate they were. It is indeed a pity they are so slow to take things down but I wouldn't let it get to you, you're the teacher. Report abuse if something is not to your liking, other than that I'd just enjoy the Summer! Very few people bother looking at it anymore.

Just wanted to point out that someone I know is on this website and they're terminally ill. It never crossed my mind until I heard the news, googled their name on a whim and their page was the first three links. Kind of makes the site seem a little insensitive and a lot irrelevant when you know the person is on the way out. This site is pointless and callous and needs to be shut down. Teachers don't get fired or promoted based on it, students don't get moved to a certain school when their parents check and approve of the relative scores of people. What purpose does it even have? Did it have one? It may be dead in the water, so it's time now to put it out of its misery.

I really think it has seen its' day. That said some of the comments I've read are spot on. I don't take any of it seriously though!

Used to be irked by this site and my 'comments' so just got a few people to post positive comments.. such as..
    Mr "" he's gr8 best teacher eva
    Mr "" is da bomb
    All that text speek stuff

,, haven't checked it in ages..couldn't care anymore..seeing other colleagues comments who have retired or passed away is a bit sad though..

i dont think students really bother with it anymore (only the boldies)

There is a lot of work going on in the background at the moment to automate the "checking" of comments. When the person who first created the site passed away the site went down hill and the people who took over lost interest. However if you do see offensive comments then report them, they will be deleted.
Edit: likewise for retired/deceased teachers, report them stating their retired/deceased and they'll be removed.

Just had a look out of curiousity - very surprised to find out the number of colleagues I teach with has tripled, and includes teachers of very random subjects, as well as pupils listed as teachers. And I thought it was such a reliable site!

maybe there should be rate the parents or rate the pupils site as well.

I used to consult it to see how the kids and parents defined a good teacher.

I knew a teacher who was out a lot and neither interested not qualified in her subject, but she gave biscuits every Friday so was considered to e sound.

A pupil had no Homework done for me. I put a note in their journal and that night a negative comment appeared on this site.
