Coax cables & outdoor wall box

I've had my UPC broadband & cable account transferred to the new house we bought. I'm happy out in that respect, service is fine. The previous owners had a satellite service only. The dish is outside, with two wires leading from it - a white one, directly round the house and into the living room, and a black one leading to the outside wall box. That wall box contains a good few coax cables but most if not all appear cut or unconnected.

The white one sends a working signal, checked with an old Sky box: I don't intend using it as I'm happy with my cable account. I wouldn't mind using the old sat box though elsewhere in the house, to an old telly for instance. However, none of the tv points indoors work. I asked the UPC installer, since he was working in the same location, about the coax cables in the outside wall box. He said he knew nothing about them, and that they were probably installed by the builders.

As my query can be misinterpreted, I'll reiterate that I've no intention to mess with the UPC cables in any shape or form, just curious if the signal from the dish can be connected correctly elsewhere, and what the purpose of the cluster of bare cables left outside is.

Assuming the second feed is connected, it will be trial and error I would say with any other outlets. You could also cut the cable to the sitting room (after plugging out the sat box), and connect it in to one of the other cables in the outside box, and again trial and error to get the right cable for the right room. Probably guaranteed to be the last one you try.

Is there anywhere obvious the second feed is going? Kitchen or Bedroom?

You will need to determine which cable is belonging to what room, using a cable tracer or voltmeter etc...also check the back of the wallplate in the room you'd like to place the box...if its metal your ok...if its a green cicuit plate type you will need to remove or bypass it as they will not allow voltage through them to make the sat work...

Or can you run a cable directly from the dish to the room you want and simply drill through the wall.

Or if your stuck use a 9v battery + a bulb.

Cheers for that all, makes the picture a bit clearer for me. Will get in touch with a mate with a better set of tools.
