Would value info on route.... Given that the driver, a dear friend, is totally unused to city driving.

They know it will mean a few extra miles and that is fine for a quieter drive.

The AA route takes through the centre of Limerick... Not a good idea.

If they go via Roscrea will that avoid Limerick?

    The map looks that way.

    Thank you!

    Graces7:

You may want to consider that the Limerick Southern Ring Road phase 2 and Limerick Tunnel are possibly going to open by Friday - so those would avoid any need to encounter city traffic. However, even without that, going from the N18 to N20 *without* going through city centre streets is very easy - as the current link (Condell Road) from the Ennis Road at Coonagh Roundabout brings you across the Shannon Bridge to the edge of the city centre and you just head out the Dock Road off that roundabout. Then it is just straight out that road and through some roundabouts across to the old N20 at Raheen. Google Maps link.

I'm only doing driving lessons there and even so I can say this isn't a big hassle at all - it's not like one-way systems or multi-lane traffic light approaches that you get in the city centre proper.

I can understand avoiding Cork city centre for example, or even Limerick city centre proper (O'Connell/William/Roches/Henry Street, etc.), but a detour just to avoid the Ennis Road, Condell Road, Dock Road and some roundabouts?
