Interesting story this. The man who owned this Beetle died two years ago. Seems the rules of the apartment block where he lived determined that if you wanted a garage you had to have a car in it. So in 1974 he bought the Beetle brand new, drove it for a few months but only for weekend shopping. Seems he hadn't driven since 1945 and was constantly arguing with his wife about the quality of his driving so in 1976 he parked the car up and it hasn't been moved since. It only has 228 km on the tacho and according to VW is in one off condition, better than you could ever restore one to. It still has the talcum on the seals from the factory.

He paid DM6125 (€3100) for it in 74, includes such extras as heated rear window, fuel gauge, passenger hand grip, 12v electrics, passenger sun visor and lockable tank cap.

    For sale today for €24,900.

An absolute bargain, perfect colour (for the time) and 12v lamps; you could only see about a metre in front with the 6v ones ....

I was I had the readies to spare ...

Is AutoBild Klassik available 'as béarla'?:(

^ Sorry, afaik it isn't available in English. I've been reading it on and off since it came out 8-10 years ago and it has some good articles.

Incidentally, the above Beetle is from 1974. This is a photo of the complete VW line up from 1974. No Polo, no Phaeton or SUVs or MPVs or GTis or what have you. :)

Yes there is a Scirocco Mk1 there which makes up for things.

This is the second last Beetle ever built, it was bought new by Auto Bild in Mexico, you often see it at VW meets and rallys in Germany. the last one is in the VW museum in Wolfsburg.

    More pics here.

Not my favourite model beetle, and as for Mexican, wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

I am surpised VW haven't made him an offer. €24,900 is nothing for them and would be less than the price of anything what they would offer from their current range.
