    hi lads

my sister sold her car and was looking at a few new cars, she does a lot of mileage 80+ miles a day, she was looking at 03 bora 1.4, which would she do better mileage in a 1.4 petrol or 1.9 diesel bora

80 miles a day 1.9 all day everyday. That 1.4 is probably the worst petrol engine VW ever made and high mileage example are money pits.

Defo the diesel. a high mileage 1.4 petrol will have you stopping for oil as well as petrol.

Stay well clear of 1.4/1.6 petrol bora a recipe for disaster, overpriced and over rated. Had endless trouble with my 1.4 and flogged it after 2 months of ownership has turned me off V.W petrol for life

High mileage , it makes more sense to look for the 1.9D.

That 1.6 petrol engine is actually a good engine just a bit over worked in a car like the Bora, you have bad experience with a 1.4 petrol and no experience with any other VW petrol engine

1.9 TDI is my preference. If power and speedy acceleration isn't priority then Id go for the 110hp engine. It will easily give 50mpg, 60 isn't difficult and they are bulletproof engines that dont suffer from the possible bad maintenance that the more powerful newer TDI's suffer from.

I have the 90hp one (same engine pretty much). 158k miles and not a bother on it. One or two niggly things to check like a tempreture sensor but to be honest, you should get the car a little service when you get it to check it over and the replacement is cheap.

1.4 and 1.6 are both too weak for the body size. I've had golf Gti's Mk2 and a 1.8 20v passat also so yes i've had my share of them OP. The Bora 1.4 bora i bought for my Gf..
