I saw a Technika DVD recorder on sale at Tesco. Can it be used to record from a sky digibox?

Yep. Tune in the Sky feed to the dvd recorder like you would the terrestials.Note that you can only record the Sat channel that you are watching. If you have Sky+, you can save anything you wish to keep onto the dvd recorder.

You cannot record everything...as some programs such as box office as macro protected, and will come out in black and white if they come out at all...plus some dvd recorders will not work full stop...had some problems with some sony dvd recorders.

What brand of hard-disk recorder other than Sky+ be used to record on FTA channels on Sky?

I have Sky+ and I can save anything I have in my Planner onto dvd or even video tape:rolleyes:.I dont know anything about Movies. I'm getting ripped off enough by Sky, so Movies are out, as is Sky Sports in the Suimmer.

I was asking about a way of recording on FTA channels on satellite without subscription.

If this is the machine i am thinking of, there is only one SCART on the back, and i think it is output only. Many/Most DVD recorders can only record from their internal tuner, so unless your SAT box has RF output, you might not be able to record anything.

I think that the Sky Digibox has RF output, doesn't it?

The €99 Dunne's Beond / Plustron DVD recorder can record composite via SCART.
    Beats S-VHS.

That Dunnes box is rather good but IIRC all the default settings are completely wrong for Ireland so it needs a fair bit of basic setting up out of the box. I would wager their returns rate is horrific :)

It was €250 in Germany. Of course no use to Germans now (DTT) as it's only got an analogue tuner. Tech Dumping.
