I'm looking at a job as one of those horrible people selling scratchcards to people on the street. I'll make about 290 a week and that means I can pay for my Italian school trip next year without bothering my parents. Has anyone ever worked as one of these people and how hard is it? I don't expect it to be fun but if I'm nice and don't chase people down, will I get less abuse.

The scratchcards aren't as bad - at least you are selling something tangible and not simply getting you to set up a standing order from your account.
Even better if you can get a little table to sit at.

When one of those charity mugger idiots starts dancing in front of me of waving their hands (because I'm wearing ear phones) I usually shake my head or make a gesture that means "not interested" (all very polite).. if they continue hounding me I tell them "I'm not interested".

Once one of them thought he was being very funny by walking alongside of me and saying "aw come on it will only take a second".. I turned round to him and said "I told you I wasn't interested, now f*** off."

Some of them invite abuse on themselves.

Yeah I hate them too, but I need the cash you know! I think as long as I don't harrass anyone I should be ok. I have a friend, sweetest, quietest girl in the world and some guy gave out to her for poking him with her umbrella, she took it down, and the guy shook his umbrella over her :( Some business suit guy.

I've been told 290, but how much does your average chugger get for a 5 day week?

    I'll make about 290 a week

No, no you won't.. Nowhere near in fact.
Well, all depending on the company but..
With most you will work on commission, around 30%, some only on 28%, with no basic wage. Everything depends on where you're placed for the day, the weather, etc. I'll just say now, don't be expecting to come out with 290 every week. No matter how hard you try some days you will come out with about 30 quid, some days even less. :(
Yeah, you are likely to get a bit of abuse, probably nothing major, again depending on where you're placed. Personally, I wasn't up to people telling me to fcuk off and looking at me like i'm scum, so I quit. It can be long hours and it's not an easy job.
Sorry if i'm putting you off, just being honest, it wasn't for me but to the people that are able for it, more power to them.
At least try it for a week or two, you might be one of those people :)
