There are numerous engines which will all fit into your car up to the top of the range integra type r 1.8engine without too much hasle. try looking up done deal, there are always advertisments for civic engines there.
Price really depends on which engine your looking for???

I would of thought that for a 94 car, it wouldn't be worth it. The price you'd pay in labour is a joke and you wouldn't even know if the engine is in good nick until it was done. Is the 1.5lsi a VTEC as standard?

SOHC as opposed to DOHC I think

Well the reason i am putting in a new engine is because i have done a lot of work with the car recently put a new kit and full respray, the shell of the car is mint, have carbon bonnet, mirrors and spoiler, gunmetal alloys and bucket seats, if i hadnt done this to the car i wouldnt be goin to the hassle of droppin a new engine into it.

Ah I see, I had to get an engine swap a few years ago in a punto, cost 400 for the engine and 600 labour. If I had more time, I probably could of gotten it a bit cheaper. You could try trainors (sp?) in Belfast, they seem to have everything!

another thing to think about before you go changing engines is insurance. check the insurance costs of each engine you may not get insured at all if you put a civic type r or integra type r block into it. you could go for a 1.5 sohc vtec and probably pick one up pretty cheap around 3-400??? (open to correction on this) would give around the 125hp mark.

a 1.6 dohc from a vti would be a bit more expensive and would produce around the 160hp mark. .... the list goes on .......

If you're gonna drop a lump in, do it proper ...you'll always be wanting more power if you go with something small.
Go for the B18 from a DC2 Integra Type R... best bang for buck really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,626 ✭✭✭✭vectra

I know a guy that took out the engine from his 93-94 civic to fit something a "bit" more power.

Let me know if you want his contact details as i am sure he still has his old one which was a good one as far as I know

Have to disagree, To insure a car properly with a transplanted uprated engine is serious money. And to buy a B18 would be big bucks too, lots of things would need to be uprated too after the engine. It'd cost a fortune. I've heard of K20 conversions costing up to 7k after all the internal work and brakes and stuff get done. A B series conversion wouldn't be that much but it'd prob cost more than just buying a DC2

Get yourself a B series man.

€1500 will see your B16A sitting in the bay all running. Make sure you spend the bucks and get a decent engine.

And still the original brake setup? I done a google there and it showed the lsi has 95hp, I can only assume it'd have rear drum brakes with that power.

And, it'd be a pig to insure

You mean it will be fully legal IF the logbook is changed and car checked over by an engineer to ensure it is safe??

AFAIK there is no need for an engineers report to get a new VLC, an insurance company might request it though

I think what vectra is trying to get at is that a lot of young lads see engine swapping as a chance to get insured in something with a K20/B18/B16 in it but the insurance think its a run of the mill 1.4.

It unfortunately does happen. Just look at all the "down as a 1.4 on log" in adverts on donedeal.

However lots of people are mature enough to convert their car and inform the insurance company also, so you cant tar all with the same brush.

Oh I know what he's trying to get at but I don't know why he's specifically picking on someone to point this out?

    ridiculous carry on

Not picking on anyone one dude.
I am only trying to show a bit of sense in this enging concersion game.
Dont worry. I have been there as well in my years but would you like to see some young guy losing control of a 2.0L civic with 1.4 braking/ suspension setup having an accident because of putting a big lump in a Kart??

I love to see cars done properly. I also like to see them insured properly as draffodx has stated.;)

Yes there are people who do that and putting a big engine in a bad base is asking for it.

Hence my comment on big budget.

Not everyone who transplants an engine is irresponsible.

My first batch of mods included some large breaks, oil cooler, ECU and suspension. If i have a 10bhp increase id be surprised.

EDIT: Btw the car is not isured but hasnt left the driveway since i bough it. (it will be insured all mods declared)

I honestly think any Type R transplant is a waste of money, the K20 conversions can cost up to 7k after all the bits get done too, there's pleanty of DC5's for sale for not much more then that. Same goes with the B series conversion.

He'd never get that kind ofmoney back when the time comes to sell it on

I have yet to see anyone make there money back modifing a car.(especially when you factor in time) Its generally a great way to empty a bank account fast.

Generally what happens is the sum of the parts are worth much more than the car as a whole and it gets broken for parts fueling someone elses project.

Some people do up their car as they like the look. Heck, if I had the money to squander, I'd get my honda repainted metallic black, and repair the front wheel wing thing (some pratt in a white van flattened it at work). I wouldn't get any money back from it when selling it, but meh, I'd do it cos I'd prefer it to be black.
Others can't afford a good car, so they get a cheap car, and add bits to it to make it look like a good car.

i take it your keeping the car seing as you done a lot of work on it?? if i was you id look out for a crashed dohc eg6 eg9 ek4 wouldnt go for a type r i think a good sir will hop of a ek9 type r on irish fuel what ever you do change the back axle to discs instead of drums as said if your putting power in a go kart something will go wrong

look on icetronix they do engine conversions, if i was you tho id just stick another d series engine back in it keep your insurance and petrol costs down as possible the way things are going in this country people need to cut down on expenditures well thats my 2p upto you at the end of the day, keep the thread updated anyway let us no how you get on:D
