This may sound silly but...... I assume you have checked all the relevant cable, used different leads, etc.

Is it the same for all sources (Sat/cable box, DVD/Blue Ray, Mac/PC)? How does the video reach the display? RF, SCART, Composite, HDMI, etc, etc?

    yup checked all connections
    same for all devices connected

Sounds like it's a problem with the TV alright.

Find a TV repairer and ask for an estimate to repair it and then see if it's worth repairing. The estimate might have a small charge.

left the tv in with a repair company
called me with a quote for repair
the screen needs to be replaced
    cost 718 euro.....
i guess i`ll be getting a new tv

Yup - new TV for you. At least you explored all options and can make an informed decision. Best off with a new TV at this stage and the comfort of a complete warranty.

pity it didn't fall and get broken, you could have claimed accidental damage on your house insurance

The excess on the insurance policy wouldn't be far off the price of a new TV........
