Bank Advertising Regulations

Who controls what must be said vis-a-vis declaration of gratuities of benefits in return for appearing in bank or other financial institutions.

For example, at the end of an ad on radio for AIB promoting small/medium business services featuring a celebrity or business person speaking of their experiences when it says:

"Joe Bloggs received a gratuity from <insert name of institution> for appearing in this ad" (or words to that effect).

Is it the ASI or financial regulator, or some other agency?

I believe that the Financial Regulators Consumer Protection Code specifiees certain requirements in this regard. I'm not sure if they provide wording that must be used specifically. I've noticed that Quinn Diorect have similar wording on the end of their radio ads recently. It differs somewhat from the wording you have highlighted but it's broadly the same.

I think that the ASAI would also have an opinion on such ads if an advertiser was using customer statements etc and not indicating that the customer had received a payment for taking part. I'd imagine that could be regarded as misleading...

I'm curious as to where your question is coming from. Have you spotted something fishy or just curious?
