Iv recently acquired a 1990 An Post Renault 5 Van, has moon miles on it but in very good nick for its age, just wondering if there is anyone with any photos of them back in the day, as im trying to find out what way the logos went and if they had the elusive yellow stripe back then . Found these guys www.mvpsi.net who are looking into it for me, but as yet no ideas.

Ill throw up some photos later this week.

cheers lads for any info ya might have

Is it not a Renault Extra van? They were used by An Post alright. Don't recall seeing a R5 used though.

Better known as a Super 5 1.6 Diesel (F8M) engine. Very popular with An Post in the mid 90's. They were however upgraded to the 5 "Extra". The distinctive difference was the van like appearance of the Extra. In the Uk the Extra would have been sold as the "Rapid". Generally speaking a great all round vehicle but.... will never replace the 4Van in my opinion.

Incorrect, it was called 'Extra' in Ireland & the UK, 'Express' in continental Europe, and 'Rapid' in Germany only.

According to UK stats - There were 18,000 approx Rapid's registered in the UK. Last block ended in 1999.

Yes I recall the R5 'An Post' vans well....I used to spray paint them back in the day!

Renault Ireland imported them in white and we repainted them in An Post green.
I will sent you a PM with some contact details.

There is a R5 van abandonded in a yard off the N11, and can be seen (just) from the road. At least I'm fairly sure it a van version....it's definitely a 1985-1991 R5.

Heading up the N11 from Arklow, about 1/2 mile before the Balliameesa Bends, there are 3 -4 house on the left. In the garden of the last house you can just make out the rear end of a R5 inside the front hedge.
