Can anyone please advise me of a better alternative , ok have sky only 1 box (sky plus) heads wrecked as kids never let me watch anything so getting another box in the kitchen for them , lady on the phone convinced me hd box is better value ! as its free instalation as aposed to a regular sky box being 100 euro anyway my current pkg is everythin but the sports 54 euro a month but now its ...multiroom 15- euro , hd- 15 euro added to the 54 which i find crazy money , ive had to downgrade to the family pack alone which still works out 32 + 15 + 15 , madness and less channels , any options or advice very much appreciated

Presumably, you have a Sky box in each room. That being the case, cancel your subscription(s) and use the boxes as FTV receivers. You'll get all the BBC AND ITV channels (alright; through other channels, but FOR FREE!!) as well as Channel 4 and Five.

You don't get the Irish channels though, you'd have to get them some other way.

The OP could get hold of one the combi receivers (I have an Edision). That'll give her the FTV stations, plus RTE and TG4 (no TV3 yet!) through DTT. I only suggested the previous idea to keep costs down, seeing she presumably has a couple of Sky boxes in the house anyway. And she presumably gets a decent analogue reception of RTE, living in Dublin.

scrap the hd pack but keep the hd box-that'l save you a bit. you can keep the sky hd box but you dont have to get the hd pack

If you have a box already and take the HD box without Hd mix it will cost you €159..

If you take the Hd mix it will be €59...better to take it without as it aint worth €15 per month in my opinion.

Just put a fressat/FTA box in the kitchen for the kids.

Your dish has a QUAD LNB already so just cable to the new receiver is all you need.

I do not think that you can cancel the HD sub until you complete your 12 month contract.

You can't. I tried cancelling back in June, only to be told I couldn't completely cancel until september due to my HD contract. Was downgraded to the most basic package and told to call back in mid august to give them 30 days notice.

Here's one place you can buy. It's available elsewhere of course.

An upgrade to multiroom with Sky is 79 euro for install of a Sky+HD box without the HD subscription and the multiroom cost is 15 euro per month. The customer services/ rep was just making the op feel obliged to get the HD pack-it's common practice when you ring Sky to upgrade and very deceptive.
The op said they wanted the extra box for the kids so I reckon fta won't cut it due to lack of Disney/Cartoonito etc.A mate of mine got fta for kids and they called it "remedial sky"-he eventually caved in (sky gave him a great deal btw)

Sorry about the lack of a sooner reply; haven't been on this forum since your post. As JDxtra has posted, that's where I got my box from. Excellent service. But there are other retailers selling them of course.
