3Pay Broadband in Castlegregory Kerry from three.ie

I was wondering if anyone has experience of using the 3G dongles from three.ie in Kerry?

We live in London, with the family returning to Ireland for the summer. They would like to be connected while in Kerry. 3Pay broadband from three.ie looked like a good option, as you only pay for the months that you actually use the service. I've tried to talk to three.ie but they don't answer their international number and I cannot use the freephone numbers from abroad.

If anyone has had a good experience from another provider, we would be interested.

    Many thanks.

It'll vary greatly. Kerry is not specific at all. The first thing is if you're in a built up area like Tralee or Killarney, that will make it much worse due to congestion. Being in a rural area you may get coverage, and if it's good then congestion is unlikely to be a problem (not for now at least, the NBS may cause some problems). Should be fine if you're not looking for amazing speed.

If you're looking for the most reliability then you should go for O2, they have EDGE coverage everywhere here (well where they have mobile coverage) which is very good and can often equal or out do 3G depending on location. Using Three will result in having no connection without 3G coverage, where Vodafone, Meteor or O2 will give you a connection but with reduced speed. However, Meteor have no 3G coverage anywhere in Kerry yet so I wouldn't go for that.

So all in all, I'd go for O2 if you're looking to be more assured of a connection. Three should be ok if you have 3G coverage...and the chances of that aren't great. Castlegregory is rumoured to be a dodgy area for mobile reception of course...

Meteor have Edge also, on all their masts, not just the 3G ones.

    [Edit: thanks for correction]

Still GPRS here. It's a bit worrying actually...Because all of their 3G coverage is within the EDGE zone if you look on a map. My guess is the backbone of the network needs to be worked on here. It's a pity because it'd be a handy backup for me, because GPRS is pretty slow.

GPRS is dialup speed. ISDN is faster.
