Washing Machine making strange loud noises when spinning

Hi all, my washing machine of nine years has recently started making extremely loud noises whilst spinning. However, there are no leaks and it still washes, rinses and spins the clothes.

The washing machine is a Zanussi Jetsystem 1400XC.

Anyone have any ideas? Too old to fix? Or can parts be got, or Zanussi agents that would come out and fix it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it sounding like someone is whacking it with a hammer? If so, mine is doing the same lately...

Last time my mother's machine did that noise, it was one of the "shocks" that support the drum that failed.

Thanks to all who posted a reply. I wonder if anybody could now recommend an agent/supplier who would call out and supply the bearing, eg as suggested - I have just been quoted eur70 for call out and at least eur150 for bearing.

could take a right few hours to do depending on the state of the bearing and shaft -what area are you located ?

Reparing a 9 year old washing machine wouldn't be advisable, buy a new one.

can you back this comment up with technical reasons as to why ?

nearest spec to this machine is the zanussi zwf 14791 which comes in at over 500 euro with a one year warrenty

if a repair can be done for 150 its onethird of the cost of replacing

not technical more common sense. If you replace bearing while that work would be gaurenteed for a while. If anything else was to go you would be paying out more money which would near equal pirce of a new machine with a 5 year gaurentee.

Since my last posting the machine deteriorated further - my white wash turned out grey and machine started to leak. So I now have no choice but t to purchase one. I feel that this was the right decision as apart from the fact of the machine further detoriating it would have cost eur70 for call out on top of at least eur150 for part.

Are you serious? So if the washing machine's part is 150 and the call out is 70(plus time) you get it fixed, with no warranty. What happens if something else goes in about 2 months? Would you spend the same amount of money again? It's 9 years old,the life span of machines now are typically 6 or 7 years

What size capacity drum is in that machine is it a 7kg?

that was only one quote -as stated it can be done for 150 all in -

you are speaking as a salesman when you say the life of a machine is 6 to 7 years because thats what you have been told ,a nine year old zanussi has a way better build quality than the crap on the market now
you sell zwf 14070 for 300 ,they are a piece of crap compared to the 1400xc

as i said the spec of that machine makes it economically viable for a repair
thats fact from a qualified engineer (me)

the grey wash that the op is experiencing is caused by the rubber seal that is in front of the bearing breaking down and releaseing grease into washwater and allowing washwater to escape thru bearing hence the leak

Obviously it's a much better machine I won't dispute that but it isn't going to last forever, how long would you reccommend to a customer they keep repairing a machine for until they get rid of it if you would advise on repairing a 9 year old machine?

We had the same problem with our machine, turns out a bolt that hold the cement block to the drum had come loose. €120 for a 2 minute fix. Same probelm started this weekend, so I opened the machine and the bolt has come loose again. On further inspection the plastic piece that joins the drum and the bolt has been damaged and I can not screw the bolt back in.

Now to see if I can get the plastic piece and I will fix it myself. I will only chang the machine if it is not an easy fix by myself or and engineer.
